Sony X720E 4K Ultra HD Smart LED TV Review4K televisions are out for a little while, but it's only recently that they have become affordable. Ordinarily, when a 4K TV's cost shouts "too good to be true," consumers know that some compromises much have been made.Part of this problem has to do with the manner TVs are sold, and also how customers understand the specifications. Often, something which seems good on paper does not perform as well as you'd expect in the real world. We've got a thorough understanding of flat-panel technology, and we've been on the lookout for a TV that has the attributes we like. Now that Sony's attracted their X720E series TVs to market, we might have found it. In this review, we are going to be going hands on to determine how it performs. We are going to go in-depth and explore all the features, and help you decide if this is a fantastic match for your own home theater system.First Look As a modern smart TV, you've got access to all the streaming services that you subscribe to, and Sony is known for being exceptionally compatible with current apps. You get the two 4K and HDR, that are just two core attributes we look for in a modern TV. To top it off, Sony is bringing a great deal of new technology to the table such as an advanced sound system, digital audio chip, and cutting-edge screen technology. But do this TV keep up to the high standard Sony has set for themselves? There's just 1 way to find out.Layout & ConnectivityDesigning the enclosure for a TV is tough. On store shelves, you want it to be eye-catching and modern. But if in use, you don't wish to take away from what really matters -- the image. With this model, all we have to say is that Sony nailed it. The bezel around the screen is virtually impossibly small; also has clear edges to draw the attention in. It's got an aluminum finish, so when you offer it a close inspection, you can tell that this is not your normal budget-brand TV. The combination of sharp outer edges and smooth internal curves have a very modern feel to them and give an elegant feel to the TV.This design is not just about looks, functionality was also an issue. There are cut-outs on the back of the TV that allow you to track your cables. From the front, you won't observe any strings dangling behind. In a contemporary living space, this adds a sense of cleanliness to your own media centre. The minimalist facade carries over to the trunk, where you'll get a simple yet decent selection of ports. You have got three HDMI ports, one USB port, a component input, and a composite SD input. The built from the wireless card will get you connected to a home network, so this covers all of the fundamentals.Color & DetailJust like any 4K TV, you know to expect incredible heights of detail, razor-sharp lines, and rich textures. But what's going to capture your attention the most is that the HDR. With the older standard, you would get a palette which was almost too vivid to be authentic. Together with HDR 10, you receive the same "wow" factor, but a coating of realism was laid over top. It is impressive, yet believable. In movies, this produces a cinematic experience rivaled only by the theatre, and provides a completely new dimension of participation. The smaller TVs are almost a little too small for 4K. The video still looks excellent, but it is only when you sit in front of the TV which you understand what the stage is capable of. That said there's still a marked advancement over 1080p, but if you choose the 55-inch edition, you will be duly rewarded.Side lit TVs, like this one, have been historically plagued with issues. This is the most common issue.Side-lit TVs are still in high demand as they can be a little more accurate, and they are often less costly. With this in mind, we anticipated some issues with the brightness, but we were pleasantly surprised. Several light guides are installed behind every pixel, which permits the panel to direct the light more accurately. The outcome is something which means studio quality.Even though the TV is capable of becoming unbelievably bright, the light is greatly localized. High contrast graphics are extremely sharp and nicely presented. By default, however, it is still not quite as vivid as a direct-lit TV.Sony addresses this issue with their Dynamic Contrast Enhancer. This is a filter which modifies the colours being sent into the TV, compensating for the minor problems in the presentation. This gives consumers an option. You can have the normal, well-presented color of the default , or the attention-grabbing contrast and vivid colors of the enhanced version. In our eyes, the natural image looks best on television, while we favor the improved contrast for films.Sony's smart TVs are based on Google's operatin...
