Another fun fact about pineapples: your mouth also gets sore/hurts after eating too much pineapple because the fruit contains a specific enzyme that breaks down meat (it's also why pineapple is often paired with meat to make it more tender!); it's one of the reasons why pineapple is one of my favorite fruits, it literally eats you back lmao

Also about the pineapple, there is another reason more important than those needles: Pineapples are actually bromeliads, and most of bromeliads are actually carnivorous plants, they use their water resevoir between leaves to trap and digest insects. Because of that, most bromeliads actually produces substances capable of digesting animal protein aka meat and pineapples are no different. They produce a substance called bromelain, that breaks down animal protein. So most of the pain on your mouth when eating a pineapple slice is because they are literally eating you back from inside
