James Webb Space Telescope - NASA`s time machine

Imagine knowing nothing about your childhood, nothing about where you came from, and spending years hunting for the answers. Then someone hands you a just-discovered trove of photographs of yourself as an infant. You'd finally be able to scrutinise every detail, searching for clues about yourself and how you came to be the way you are.

That's just what it is like for astronomers as the long-anticipated, $10 billion telescope is travelling in space, hoping to discover the most mysterious objects in our universe. If all goes well, it will soon show what the universe looked like as a newborn, nearly 14 billion years ago.

If the big bang happened 14 billion years ago, and it took 14 billion years for earth to be where it is today, how can we look back into 14 years ago? I realize light is taking that long for light to reach us. But in my mind, it requires the earth to have been sitting here for at least 14 billion years to be receiving light from distant parts of the universe or when the universe was forming. Unless the universe went from nothing to today's size in a blink... Otherewise, the light from 14 billion years ago travelled with the dust that formed the earth.... I'm confused.

Curious, if you wanted to look back in time wouldn't you need to look forward in time so that you are looking at the light that's already went past your telescope billions of years earlier, before you ever had that telescope? Just asking.

what we need to work on is seeing things quicker then speed of light, that way we can start to view things in Blocks. So for e.g going from VCR tapes to Digital videos. Right now we can only hit play and record.
