The Top Of Australia - Mt Kosciuszko

The rooftop of Australia - the Kosciuszko Main Range.

Home to Australia's big mountain terrain, this vast landscape is winter paradise. While Kosciuszko is easily accessible from Thredbo during the winter, a more backcountry experience can be found by taking the Dead Horse Gap trail.

Dead Horse Gap is a funny name for a hiking trail - named after brumbies that were commonly killed in snow storms in the area. Odd name aside the trail showcases stunning views of the Ramshead Range before joining on to the Main Range Track.

Be sure to understand the conditions and know your capabilities before heading out into the Main Range during the winter months. Day trips from Thredbo are a much safer option for those without backcountry knowledge and the right equipment.
