A favorite from decades ago is Norah Lofts. I began reading her work in the 1970s, and still re-read them. She writes some books about well-known historical figures, but my favorites are the ones dealing with families in houses over generations. The plots are complicated and there's often a ghost.

I love historical fiction since I was a child. I have always sought out books from different perspectives during WWII. However I never thought there would be so many sub-genres. This was a great list. This allows me to try another genre through on of my favorites. I love anything about Lincoln so the “Lincoln in the Bardo” is now high on my TBR list.

A Brief history of seven killings has been a favourite of mine since reading it 5 years ago..so seeing it on the list I am excited to read swimming in the dark and the crucible!..The west vs socialism/communism is RIGHT UP my alley!!! (ardent believer of socialist programs here)
