During more than 13 years of brutal civil war, the Assad regime in Syria appeared to have triumphed over various rebel factions. But a sudden rebel offensive on November 27, 2024 marked the end of President Bashar Al-Assad’s government in less than two weeks. The most notable rebel faction is Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, or HTS, a former affiliate of Al-Qaeda led by Abu Mohammed Al-Golani, who is designated as a terrorist by the US State Department. While Golani has promised a peaceful transition of power, Syria now faces significant uncertainty over its governance. The country remains divided among multiple militias, with foreign troops and interests continuing to shape its future.

All I wish is for the people to finally be happy or atleast safe. The civil war literally destroyed Syria. No matter which foreign power was involved, no matter who the rebels were or who the power will next go to... i hope the people will be in a better state. None of them ever deserved what they went through..

The portrayal of Abu Muhammad al-Julani as a “rebel leader” and the romanticizing of anti-Assad forces ignore his well-documented history as a brutal terrorist responsible for thousands of deaths, particularly among Christians and other minorities. These narratives reflect strategic biases, media oversimplifications, and geopolitical calculations. Such distortions not only undermine efforts to hold HTS accountable but also obscure the true complexity of the Syrian Civil War and its devastating impact on all communities.

Regime's may fall and powers change, but one thing will always stay the same, the Toyota truck as the vehicle of choice for rebels. Oh what a feeling.

Things on the ground might not looks this bright. Different armed factions with sometime totally different goal are still pretty much in charge of different area. The fall of the already crumbled SAA area left out a whole new power vacuum…and this might be a new start of another major civil war between the HTS,the SNA and the Kurdish faction. Also, the fall of the Ba'th rule may means Syria would become a much more Sunni Islam focused country with stricter religious policy just like Iran and Afghan after the Islamic revolution or the return of Taliban. There could be hope but people would also certainly need to prepare for the worse.

What is probably energizing, but then chaotic will follow suit, it's going to take some time.
