Volunteering at an animal shelter.
My favorite cat there, I've known her since march, tends to push people away after a bit. While continuing to purr loudly. Today she let me pet her for 20 minutes straight before going into playful/hang out with me but don't touch me mode.
She swats at me when she has enough, yes. But she gives several warning signs, and never hits me with her claws.
She was found roaming around and nobody seemed to miss her, she has an old fracture in her right hindleg, and she seems to have some kind of trauma causing her to be like this. But she meows at me the moment she sees me, she purrs the whole time I'm with her, and if I do something that crosses her boundaries she tells me. She's always extremely happy to see me, and while I can't adopt her i can be there for her.
Yesterday she fully relaxed when I was reading to her. She wants to give out and receive love so much. She just needs a while until she trusts you enough to let you love her and give you the love. Also, she's so funny, today she beat up her beloved cardboard bed.
Sadly no one seems to be interested in adopting her so far. Maybe because she has a slight disability. Maybe because she doesn't immediately let you touch her when you first meet her. But I really hope she'll find her person soon, because sadly, I can't be her forever person.

I worked with a person who would LITERALLY say "I hate cats" and walk away if I dared to even bring my boy into the conversation. But they could talk all day long about their dog without the same amount of rudeness.

My cat being "aggressive" is just him being in play mode and not understanding humans are squishy or him being scared of something. Just the other day he was sleeping on my lap and awoke in a panic from a nightmare. He didn't mean to claw my leg and was very quick to cuddle when he saw me.

I have read somewhere the dog. Owners want their dog to be human and the cat owners want themselves to be a cat. This is exactly how I feel about my Kitty. I mean, she is 10 years old 16 pound, but she's still kitten to me.

Dog people are almost always rude about cats. Cat people are almost never rude about dogs. True for many of my friends and family. When I bring it up to those close to me, the answer always boils down to allergies in some form. smh

I've had a few "mean" cats, but they were older ladies who just wanted to be left alone most of the time. Just like people, cats need their personal space, and if they were in the mood even these "mean" cats were cuddly and loved attention

Agreed. Also, why the hell are people thinking cats are aggressive when more people are sent to the hospital by dogs. Yes, many cats will claw or bite, but it is usually when they are scared, while many dogs will do it because they enjoy it. No, I’m not saying dogs are a bad pet, but the hate cats get is just undeserved. Also, side note, why is Layla one of the cutes cats on the planet?
