Summary (for me):
1. Don't eat naked carbs (sugars, sweets without fiber, simple carbs)
2. Put some fats, protein or fiber with the carbs you eat.
3. Eat a great breakfast (protein + fat preferentially).
4. Coffee after the breakfast (<9-10 am).
5. Eat food in this order: Fiber, protein+fats, carbs.
6. Eat slower and don't snack.
7. Sweet things only as a dessert (for example fruits like bananas could be on a smothie made of chia seeds).
8. Drink vinegar before the meal (it could be on the salad, as a dressing with lemon).
9. Don't count calories.
10. WALKING after you eat.

I find eating a small handful of almond nuts before meals works wonders keeps glucose levels down amazing.

I recently discovered your YouTube channel and I really appreciate the free content. I’ve found it very helpful as a type 2 diabetic. I really wanted to book a 45 min consultation with you Tom but the $199 USD fee was a financial issue for me. I know you’re not offering medical advice and your time and is valuable of course but this fee is even more than what a medical specialist would charge for an initial consultation. I just wished it was more affordable.

Tom, thank you so much for all your information. My first husband was diabetic, so I am familiar with it, and at the age of 45, I developed severe reactive hypoglycemia. So need to follow the same diet, watch my blood sugars, etc. Medicare won’t pay for a CGM for me, but your vid’s convinced me that it would be money well spent to pay for one on my own instead of continuing to live in fear of another seizure from low blood sugar. I found Jesse a few months ago, also, and I don’t follow all her hacks, but through trial and error have figured which ones work the best for me. Between that, and the information you have, I have been able to slowly get back out into the real world again. Thank you so much for all your hard work !

I found Jesse’s hacks including the injecting insulin about 10 minutes prior to meal the best thing that has worked for me. I have also gone a little further by including cruciferous vegetables (eg broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage) with every meal.. if I’m making stews, casseroles or curries I cut the veggies in big chunks and place them in the pot for the last 10mins cooking time so that it steams and easily pick out when serving. Eating extra vegetables has really been a game changer for my diabetes and jesse’s hack helped even more..

Hach #7 has been a game changer for me. I would drink 2 cups then drive to work then eat breakfast. My stress level was already high before starting work, everyone iritated me, and I would have a wicked crash in the afternoon. I now drink coffeE after eating breakfast. No more afternoon crashes, much less stress, and my BP has gone down.

Thank you for confirming Jessie's hacks. You provide a lot of credibility. The tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in a large glass of water is like a pre-bolus for those that are not T1 diabetes. Good information.

Tom, Big Thank You. My Mother was Diabetic. We were Not Told. My Father was a Dr. He never told us kids that it Runs in the Family. I Eat Super Clean. But I have Been Self Educated . My Last Bloodwork, I Expected the Worst. I was Told, " Your Levels are Fine" " You are Fine". I was in Shock. How Could a Blood Test not Reveal a Problem. ? You are Helping So Many People.

I am a type 2 and I enjoy and benefit your contents. One of my regular lunch and diner, if available, is Yong To Fu with clear soup. I always choose bitter goud, lady finger, mushroom, tomato, bean curd, jalapeno, and a boiled egg. No rice or noodle and its very tasty

01:21 🍞 Avoid "naked" carbs, like toast with jam or fruit juice, as they cause significant blood sugar spikes.
02:29 🥑 Cover carbs with fat, protein, or fiber (e.g., Greek yogurt on cake) to slow down glucose absorption and reduce spikes.
04:06 🍳 Opt for a savory breakfast (e.g., omelet instead of pancakes) to avoid blood sugar spikes; fruits should be consumed whole.
06:10 🚫 Avoid coffee on an empty stomach to prevent blood sugar spikes, as caffeine can impact adrenaline production.
06:53 🍽 Sequence food consumption: Veggies first, proteins/fats second, and starches/sugars last to potentially reduce spikes by 20-30%.
09:08 🍴 Eating slower and taking breaks between courses can reduce blood sugar spikes, especially in carb-heavy meals.
11:27 🍰 Consume sweet foods as dessert after a balanced meal with fiber, protein, and healthy fats to moderate blood sugar spikes.
13:30 🥄 Drink vinegar before meals (or include in salad dressing) to potentially reduce glucose spikes by about 10-15%.
14:54 🍔 Stop obsessing over calorie counting; focus on food quality and impact on blood sugar levels instead.
16:05 🚶 Move after eating to help muscles absorb glucose; for insulin-dependent diabetics, consider pre-bolusing (injecting insulin before meals) based on CGM trends.

First-timer on your channel, loved listening to you, subscribed. Your pace is perfect and you make no pre-knowledge assumptions; bravo! 30+ years as a Type I here with a cargo load of other non-related issues. The after-meal spikes have become increasingly intolerable and lengthy in the last 18 months, interfering with my ability to focus on the other problems sitting in the hold. Thank you very, very much for this August '23 video.

Thank you very much. I have the e-book version of Jessie's "Glucose Revolution" book but I very much liked hearing your thoughts. I don't have Type one or Type two diabetes, but I do know the importance of monitoring and managing blood sugar for everyone. Jessie's 10 hacks made great sense to me, but it's reassuring to me that a very knowledgeable and articulate person with Type one diabetes (you) also sees the 10 hacks as legit and valuable. I also very much appreciated your review of all of the CGM's. In the near future I'll a CGM for a month too and really see how what I eat and how I eat it translates into my blood glucose levels. Nice job! Great content.

Love your videos, TD1 for the last 40 years and a lot of what to eat or not eat has changed a lot. The coffee is something I do and always get a spike even if afternoon if I have empty stomach. Great advice and will try some of those hacks

I've been doing most of these for a while(but the soleus exercise is new to me, thankyou). I find the vinegar hack is best served as a salad dressing on your pre meal salad. Make your own with balsamic vinegar, dijon, lemon juice and garlic powder. :)
