We all know that exercise is good for our physical health, but exercise can be just as powerful for our mental health and our brain health.

This clip is from episode 97 of the podcast with clinical-academic physiotherapist, Brendon Stubbs

His work is helping to provide much needed evidence of what we know instinctively - physical activity makes us feel good.

In this clip he explains why movement is not just good for our body, but also for our mind and why you don’t need to exercise for hours to feel the benefits. Just 10 minutes of light exercise a day can result in meaningful changes happening within your brain.

Thank you so much.
I am a runner and have been one for 45 years.
Without being able to verbalise the mental health benefits of running (there wasn't any research in those days), I always suspected that my mental health was the part of me that benefited most from running.
How did I know this?
I feel so good and energised and calm after running.
I don't tell this arrogantly, but gratefully. Running changed my life!
On the day that I turn 100 (35 years away) and I get my telegram from the Queen saying well done Dave, I hope that I will have been for a run that very morning.
God bless,
Dave

I LOVE this short version with the most important tidbits of a larger interview. I have about 10 minutes a day to learn something extra or new and this is a perfect format for this busy time in my life. I am an RN, and after shifts, 10 minutes is about all I can do. ( I love walking, too!!! Or, as Jane Austen would say, "I'm very fond of walking!")

I truly believe in this as well.✨

I have been exercising everyday for more than 8 months now and it makes me get calmer, more energetic and also feel better.

10 m8ns is achievable, sometimes even with the best endeavours it’s hard to make 30mins and you can feel demotivated. Any exercise is definitely better than none and I definitely feel the difference even from a 10 min yoga session in the morning. Thank you for this interview.

10 mins of proper excercise a day is great that I am recently experienced that great stress relieving and provide energy, and mind gets active. It lasts long for 2 to 3days.

Love this ten minute format Dr C! Means I'll fit in a watch which I don't often make time for with the long conversations. And YES to light activity and mental health. Daily 1 hour dog walk is what keeps me sane.

The book The Joy of Movement was pivotal for me to realize how important exercise is to my mental health!

It’s unbelievable the benefits of just little exercise. Though your body will get used to it so sometimes you have to push yourself a little more. Exercise really helps my mental health, it’s night and day difference.
