From C.S. Lewis' "Mere Christianity".

In this excerpt, C.S. Lewis emphasizes that Christian morality, particularly the Golden Rule ("Do as you would be done by"), is not a new concept introduced by Christ but a reminder of the age-old principles that everyone inherently understands. He argues that Christianity does not offer specific political programs but guides individuals to apply Christian principles in their own fields, aiming to create a balanced society that values both social and individual virtues. Lewis also highlights the importance of charity, the dangers of seeking support for personal views in Christianity, and the need for genuine transformation into fully Christian lives to realize a truly Christian society.

jesus did instruct us in a new commandment - Love one another as I have loved you - which takes Golden Rule a step farther - Jesus gave his life for each of us, so not as I would have done to me, but lay down one's life for each other
