This has always been my favorite film score and movie, but reading these comments makes me so happy to know that there are other people that loved this movie as much as me. I remember the Pizza Hut puppets and when McDonald's gave a copy of the VHS with the happy meal. This movie had so many life lessons wrapped up in a beautiful story, and the music is amazing. I still watch it every now and then at the age of 35! It never gets old! :)

This music evoke to me the wonder of living, the consciousness of our own mortality, the pain of loosing those we love, the moment we realize we are about to die, and finally the meaning of all of this.

"Once upon this same Earth, beneath the same Sun. Long before you, before the ape, and the elephant as well. Before the wolf, the bison, the whale. Before the mammoth and the mesodon, in the time of the dinosaurs.

Now the dinosaurs were of two kinds: some had flat teeth and ate the leaves and trees, and some had sharp teeth for eating meat, and they preyed upon the leaf eaters. Then it happened, the leaves began to die, the mighty beasts who ruled the Earth were ruled by the leaf. Desperate for food, some herds stuck out towards the west, searching for the Great Valley, a land still lush with green. It was a journey toward life.

Yet, the journey was full of many dangers. Sharp teeth stalked the herds, waiting to seize any who strayed. The leaf eaters stopped only to hatch their young.

Some of the young seemed born without fear.

Yet, even hatching could be dangerous.

One herd had only a single baby, their last hope for the future. And they called him, Littlefoot.

All that remained of his herd was his mother, grandmother, and his grandfather. He knew them by sight, by scent, and by their love. He knew they would be together, always.

This movie has one of the best movie scores ever created.
Instantly recognizeble and for many, including me, in my head this plays after a lot of very fond memories i have of my childhood.
I'll treasure this movie and it's music for the rest of my life.

I love John Williams, Hans Zimmer, Jerry Goldsmith, and other composers as much as anyone else, but James Horner had something really special when it came to subtle emotion. He was the KING of melancholy and really rich and deep feelings.

This lovely soundtrack is far more imaginative and richer than the cartoon it was made for. It has exotic and oriental melodies woven in with quiet and serene harmonies. I think this is one of Horner's greatest orchestration pieces he's ever written.

I saw this at the cinema when it was released back in 1988, I was only 4 years old, the first movie I ever saw, still one of my favourite movies ever! And I almost have every James Horner score album, his score to this and Willow had a profound impact on me. RIP to a true musical legend! Mr. Horner 💙

What a wonderfully marvelous score by James Horner. It's been almost ten years since he left us. What creations were left unfinished by his passing. He died too soon but we have his music, in it he will be remembered and live on.
