Can Michigan Wolverines Run Game Sustain Success?

The Michigan Wolverines game plan against the USC Trojans was to win with three yards and a cloud of dust in the biggest Big Ten football game of the week. The Michigan running game proved to be too much for USC with big plays, including the winning go ahead 4th and goal touchdown by Kalel Mullings with :37 to go.

Elsewhere around the Big Ten Ohio State resumed play following their bye week and their first string roster dominated Marshall. And so did their second string reserves. Penn State football also came off a bye and looked right vs Kent State. The Curt Cignetti led Indiana Hoosiers are averaging over 50 points a game and are off to a 4-0 start after beating Charlotte.

Plus Illinois football has two wins vs ranked teams after a big win at Nebraska Friday night as the Huskers have lost yet another one score game. There is a trend the Huskers must reverse. We will explore more here.

At some point they need to turn the car keys over to Jadyn Davis. Why wait? Passing accuracy. Arm Strength. Good decision making. 5 star. Blue Chip. Certainly couldn't do worse. Michigan has played Texas and USC. Who has Ohio State played?? Busting up on MAC teams is not impressive.

Can michigan win like that going forward? Not against Oregon or OSU. But slight changes to the offense would make it work. They have to get the quick RPO game, semaj morgan running real and fake jet sweeps, reverses, double reverses, and double reverse passes going (they have Kendrick Bell, a QB turned WR) to keep the defense out of the box and guessing.

And then not be afraid to bring in Warren on downs where they know you are passing anyway.

There are ways to improve the passing game. Could we incorporate packages for Jaden Davis or Jack Tuttle to supplement the passing game?

Give Orji 1st strings reps in practice and live rounds in games and he will get better. May not be enough to beat OSU but hopefully enough to get us into the playoffs which is all I want following the natty and all the losses we had from players and personnel

K.. we need to lay off of AO. He will get it going. First EVER start. He protected the ball and helped them navigate to a win. Remember what happened in 21’ when Mich played Washington? Cade threw for 40 yards.. the team ran for 300. Pretty similar stat. I gotta believe with AO’s skill set that he can progress farther than Cade.. also, everyone said that running attack could not be sustained and we would lose to OSU if we didn’t develop a stellar pass game… Hasan Haskins ran for 5 tds in that game and Michigan won. Mullings reminds me of Haskins ALOT! Edwards will be the lightning, Mullings will be the Thunder. This is 2 weeks in a row Mullings went over 150 and the team put up 290+ on the ground.. you guys are suffering from some short memories if you don’t think the run game can get it done. As the run game improves, the D will continue to as well. AO will find a rhythm in passing.. and when he does.. it’s lights out. A dude that can run like that AND throw the ball with our o line and backfield? The energy from the core will transfer to the wr room and others if they keep improving. Don’t write them off. That’s all im saying.

I watched most of the B1G games on Fri-Sat and was impressed by several things/players/coaches. The biggest shocker, however, is how Raiola folded like a cardboard suitcase in the final series at the end of 4Q, and then looked like a 10 yr old Pop Warner QB who was dropped into the B1G fray in the OT period. It was so bad, it was absurd. I suppose he'll recover quickly enough, but other teams/coaches should be aware that he can and has folded under cruitial game

USC didn’t blow that game, Michigan almost gave it away. But to answer your question if Michigan can continue to win this way; they can for the time being. Orji will have to continue to improve throwing downfield and off of play action. Also he will have his security blanket in Colston Loveland who didn’t play this last game. If Orji can throw for around 150 yds and rush for another 50 with the defense playing up to their potential they can win the rest of the games on their schedule. The most difficult games are in November so he will have an ample amount of time to improve by then.
