They definitely had a little budget if they had the ability to animate those characters. Animation isn't cheap. However, the poor quality of the animation does reflect what kind of budget they were willing to spend on a host. So with the "quiet on set" doc still releasing stuff and low budget, it's hard to get a high profile person to host.

Nickelodeon is so determined to use this kind of "augmented reality" type of CGI animation. And even though I realize that it was pretty expensive to produce, I'm sorry it just LOOKS SO CHEAP.

Seriously, the characters have zero life in their eyes. The mouths moving barely, if ever, sync up with the audio. And having SpongeBob and Patrick just hang out behind the podium on a screen just lifelessly staring at everyone and everything could honestly be considered nightmare fuel.

They seriously should just consider doing traditional 2D animation segments from now on. The CG isn't working.
