This is how I clean my records. It's hands on, doesn't use mechanisms, involves no chemicals and it works great!

all the other videos I see tell me I've been cleaning my records wrong when I've been cleaning mine this same way myself for decades with no problems, thank you for posting this awesome instructional video

I've also been cleaning my records like this for years and it's always worked for me. I know how skeptical people can be about cleaning records so I'm always hesitant to share this with anyone but it's actually how we did it back in the day. But to each their own.

Decent minimalist method.. except for 1 crucial point. If using just water, absolutely use distilled water as opposed to tap water.

I'm a photographer and when cleaning a lens the first step is to use an air blower (like a turkey baster) to blow off any dust before wiping the glass. Think of those specks of dust as mini concrete blocks, do you want to grind them into your vinyl? I've checked loads of vid's and none mention this vital first step! I'm going to try your method thanks for the info.

Oh MAMA, I'm coming home. I never use faucet water on my records. Only Distilled. When you said it looked like brand new and the reflection said "Nope" I think I had a cardiac. lol

I have done this and used a microscope after when dry you would see all the particles of the cloth rubbed into the grooves it just ends up on your stylus when played . Check your stylus after playing a few records you will see the material off the cloth on it .

I got a vevor ultrasonic lp cleaner about 6 months ago. Inexpensive and really effective. Distilled water and Groovewasher G Sonic for about 10 minutes with 2 lps.

I've used tap water, dish soap, and scentless wet wipes for years. Never a problem. I'd used bottle water but we have soft water so it doesn't leave spots. If there's stubborn chunks like paint tranfer or dried blood I'll use a little baking soda on the spot.

I clean my records same way with just water. Been doing it for 40 years with no problems. I use new terry cloth wash rags. One wet one dry. They seem to clean the grooves nicely then after i dry record i give it a shot of compressed can air on each side to dry. Then sleeve. Also i dont ruub hard with wet cloth and i sit on floor holding record against me. ❤

I bought a 45 from a thrift store for $0.50 cents and it was a little scratched but really really dirty.

I figured I had nothing to lose, so I actually washed it in the sink just like a plate. I rinsed it first and then gave it some soap, and another rinse.

It came out sounding 1, 000 times better!

Is that distilled water? I've heard not to use tap water because it's full of minerals? I'm new to vinyls so I haven't formed an opinion yet. Interested in this as it's the only video I've seen that uses normal tap water, which I presume it is as if it is distilled it wouldn't be free. Unless you distill it yourself of course lol

Shame on you for giving people the impression that this works. All you are doing is ruining your records. I have been a record collector for 57 years, own thousands of records and i would never use this method. Old thin towel: no. Tap water: no. Soft old rags: no. Old socks: really?

Never knew Satch (Satriani) released singles!

But I thought it had to be distilled water because tap water contains harmful minerals and chemicals?

(Time Mark 0:48) So, did you folks know you were working in the record store from "High Fidelity" or was it just a happy accident?

I would never wash a LP like that. Why would you use random old rags on precious LPs? You have to use brand new microfiber cloths that have never been used for anything else. You also have to use distilled water so you don't get scale deposits. The groove is so thin that water will not even get to the bottom because of surface tension. You can do it really cheap with distilled water, 99.9% alcohol and wetting agent.
