The Power of Nonverbal Communication | Joe Navarro | TEDxManchester

For 25 years, Joe used nonverbal communication as his primary professional tool in the FBI to catch and interview spies, criminals, and terrorists. Since leaving the FBI his life’s work has been in building awareness about the power of nonverbal communication, debunking myths and falsehoods about nonverbals and giving people insight in how to better utilize nonverbals to enhance their communication skills.

Using his specialized skills in behavioural assessment, he mastered the craft of counterintelligence through the use of nonverbal communication. Since retiring he has authored 13 books dealing with human behaviour and lectures widely on the importance and practical use of nonverbal communication.

Joe Navarro is one of the best. The way he positively influences others, gives very clear explanations and presentations and also uses humour to engage. His books are exactly the same as his presentations. They are very clear and to the point. I learned so much from him and few others like Chase Hughes, Mark Bowden and B. And A. Pease. I became more confident and I am already teaching my children about bodylanguage and behaviour from very young age to understand what others feel and also for their own protection and happy future.

I’ve never seen Joe make so many jokes in a video before. He’s usually such a master of human interaction because he can see people and read their reactions, but he’s out of his comfort zone in this setting because he can’t see them well and it’s not one-on-one. I think he may be using jokes to self-soothe by making the setting more familiar, because laughter is just about the only reaction you can get out of a crowd.
