This video explains how to install your brand new or used winch using our 2014 Jeep Wrangler JK as reference. We reference our new Warn VR10 winch but this will work for all warn, smittybilt, harbor freight, super winch, etc models. Super basic Install

ALWAYS BE CAREFUL WITH WINCHES! Theres warning labels all over it for a reason. BE CAREFUL and have fun! Its a great tool. Like most Jeep and Hummer owners. Get it? lol

You should turn the hook around. If it slips off, the force will shoot it to the ground and not into the air becoming a dangerous missile. You should also get a few line dampeners, leather gloves, tree strap, snatch block and a nylon extension strap. Have fun, be safe!

Not to spend your money, but a Factor 55 hook allows you to use a 3/4" screw pin shackle, or for more safety and a lot more strength, IIRC 8, 000 lbs vs 39, 000 lbs rating, a soft shackle from BUBBA ROPE.
The FACTOR 55 hook also allows you to look the safety latch with an integrally stored pin.

Two snatch blocks will allow to to pull to the rear with your front mounted winch, also

To prevent theft, I always cut a couple of pieces of angle iron, just big enough to cover the bolt heads and tack weld from underneath. Keeps a simple flat wrench from stealing your investment. Someone would need a cordless grinder and time to get at it, plus the noise.
