chip in- If two or more people add money together to pay for something, they are chipping in. If you chip in for a gift, you give money with one or more people to pay for the gift.

cut back- when you cut back on spending you try and spend less. Maybe you have been cutting back on your expenses so that you can save some more money for a vacation. I have to cut back my spending on eating at restaurants when I want to save money.

a rip off/to rip off- when you rip someone off you give them a bad product or service, or maybe you make them pay without giving them what they paid for. we can also use this as a noun and say that something was a rip-off if you paid too much money for it.
