A bit bigger than my solar PSU for my amateur radio gear Dave, I only get 135W on a good day here in the southern part of the uk but it's good enough to run the radios 😊

I'd like to see a run-down of how the system works.

Did this require a permit and inspection?

I got the satellite view from before the installation. It will be interesting to compare before and after when G.E. catches up.

This is old, right? You had this done a couple of years ago I thought.

Just reposting what I posted on the eevblog comment section:

Have you done some statistics about the production/consume of energy and so on?
Would be interesting to know.
How many time during the year do you have to clean the panels from dust etc. or is a powerful rain enough to keep it clean to improve efficiency?

I'm more interested in the loose tiles for roofing than I am the solar panels lol. Seems like they would last an eternity... here in the U.S. we usually go for shingles, tar covered paper with grit on top of it. They last about 30 years or so, or that's what they are usually rated at. I live in Florida now, and I find a "30 year shingle" really means 22-25 years before you should think about changing it. Still though, that seems like a lot of time for some tar sheets nailed to plywood.

I saw add that they are using your video, hopefully they asked your permission

Hey, do solar panels have a disconnect? I mean one of the basic rules of working with electricity is that you DISCONNECT POWER FIRST. But in this case, the sun is the power. So how do you wire this up safely.

Now I know this is probably like 18v DC but even still it is a good idea to somehow disconnect power before working on it..

Roughly how much % of your electrical demand is met by these solar panels?

Are those roof tiles masonry/terracotta? Or are they some type of synthetic? I haven't seen anything like that around Pennsylvania (I have slate, but most people around here have asphalt shingles.)

I read in the editorial for March 2015 Silicon Chip that if there's a blackout in the area, Solar Panels or not, one's house will also be blacked out. This totally sucks. Hopefully, not too far away, people will have batteries good enough to store enough electricity to be completely energy independent. This could be so much more efficient than than distributing power through the grid, considering distance losses. Folks are already harvesting Off-Peak power so surely this scenario isn't in a reality far in the long distant future.
