The title of the movie is pretty accurate. Rob Bell is only "profound, " to those who have zero interest in Jesus Christ and zero interest in doing the will of God. The guy is a self-promoting, new age guru, who name drops Jesus, when it suits him!

I really like this guy, I grew up in a church that fought and fell apart because some people clapped and others didn't. Some may say those clappers must repent for their crimes but it's unfounded. I think he was a lot of great points, is well researched and actually makes me really think about the bible and go through it. I grew up in an area aching for God, a place where no one believed in God and I never felt I had a church that wasn't flaky (off in lalala land) or fell apart over something minor. Christians often live in this bubble and it never was so apparent until I moved across the country to the south, the best and worst in the name of God. Like every doctrine and every Christian, Rob Bell chooses what he thinks makes sense, he does cherry pick, just like the rest of us do. No one has a full answer, but I think Rob is much closer to the mark then many others would say. It's not my place to judge, and I believe grace is significant in areas where we may not have all the answers. For me personally considering almost everyone I ever knew growing up was not a Christian, it would just not make sense to me for them to be dammed. God would never be so cruel to nice people who are often far nicer than Christians themselves who lust with riches but hate to help the poor or hate people who clap, etc etc. I cannot believe in a cruel God, thus, am forced to believe there is more to the story.

Those born into a strong Christian community with all the right answers, and money to back it, need be careful and continue to work out your salvation. If this at least brings more people to the door, I cannot see him as doing wrong, while some Christians may turn there back on him, he is still bringing people in who otherwise would not have heard anything. I grew up in a poor community, my parents struggled it tore them apart, the land struggled, and many might have said God had left the area when I was young, but I'd like to imagine in some small way I made some impact, at the end of the day, Jesus saves not me so I have to leave a lot of their salvation in his hands. I don't think Rob Bell is for everyone, I think he does help those who are at a different point of faith than others.

It’s incredible to watch a person that absolutely cannot get over himself and doesn’t even try. I can only imagine what it would be like to have an ego that large.

Way back in the 1970's and '80's, the reflective sentiment often said when a Christian spoke in judgement over a fellow Christian was: "Why do we as Christians always shoot our wounded?" The idea being that we weren't being kind or understanding or, more directly, even curious enough to engage in a real and open dialogue with that person - to express the same kind of treatment, love and integrity we'd want if the situation were reversed. Perhaps, the saying implored, we could play a role in leading them back? Or, maybe, healing a hurt or providing clarity where chaos had crept in.

Though the expression never entertained this possibility, perhaps we should've also assumed it very well could be the accuser who would do the learning - even the repenting.

One can easily see the early manifestations among this way of one sheep bleating at another to what has become the toxic norm on social media - to safely and shamelessly yell condemnation and hatred at someone from the comfort and obscurity of the faceless, nameless crowd. Nevermind that you don't really know this person - even if, in the highly unlikely event, you've actually met him or her. Nevermind that you are no less fallible, misinformed, looking through that same dark glass dimly with the same likelihood of seeing things skewed or wrong or missing the glaringly deeper point altogether. Hurl that stone! Shout that edict! And shine that glowing halo you're so sure has been rightly bestowed upon you. Surely, we should all be dropping our stones and one by one be humbly walking away.

Perhaps guarding our hearts includes guarding our lips - and our typing and texting fingers - as well. Perhaps God's love, whatever that might ACTUALLY look like, might better spill out without all of our religious fervor and righteous indignation running rampant on Twitter and YouTube and Facebook. Maybe there's a truer testimony in that quiet life we are called to ambitiously pursue?

Perhaps we'll never know.

Everything this man has said just in this clip is heretical. JESUS would be mortified if some one started a religion in his name? Explain the verse where talking to Peter he says in this rock I will build my church! This rock meaning the gospel. Or where he told everyone to go out and preach the gospel to every living creature. Also the Bible is dragging people backwards? It’s the living word of GOD! you know the author of life. If it’s inconvenient for you, then you are living backwards.

Love Rob Bell's work (and recently saw his Holy Shift show is Tucson, AZ). Thanks Rob for giving me permission to encounter that subversive narrative that's lurking underneath a "Christian" narrative that doesn't make sense anymore. My experience of freedom and joy has exponentially grown because of your voice and message.

Christianity hasn't failed to say that is to say God has failed it is man and the love of sin that has Rob Bell is leading many to hell with his will give you over to your lies and make you believe them if you choose another Jesus other than the biblical one

yeah sure, ok, no one is saying the church has no faults or made some terrible mistakes. of course its full of people. but the answer isn't rob bells reformation stratergy, i can tell you that. whilst he may have some points he also loves the praises of men. there well maybe a religious system gone wrong but God knows who are his and who's hearts are for the genuine truth. That is the true body of christ he is not seeing.

While I agree that Jesus would not his name to be used as a religion, Rob seems to ignore many theological aspects of Jesus' teaching to suit his lifestyle. I hope he comes to terms with it.

went to res life on 44rth long ago and not impressed with his style still trying to get thru his book velvet elvis with a open mind and recently saw movie hoping to get clarity but left with sadness because he and his fans are arrogant self centered baseless talk in circles give not gratitude or glory to God. The groupies of this nature are really just wanting personal attention plain to see.

I grew up with a flag at church, I"m really okay with that, and, at the same time, I think Donald Trump is an opportunistic hypocritic who doesn't have the slightest idea what deep Christianity is. Rob Bell has a LOT to say....

I used to really really like Rob Bell. He’s on track with some things but when he fudges what the Bible says, it’s off track. It’s ashame too because some of what he says is challenging and great, but he illegitimizes it with where that vision veers past or against scripture which needs to be the barometer. Somewhere along the line, I think this conflict became his identity, as the very name of this documentary shows. His identity is now being someone who kicks up dust. It’s about Rob Bell.
