Per-Bastet, known to the ancient Greeks as Bubastis and called Tel Bata today, was a major city of Egypt during the 23rd dynasty (950-750 BCE). It was the center of the cult of Bastet, ancient cat goddess, and hosted a gigantic cemetery of domestic cats.

Fun Fact: One of the most highly rated movies in Egypt in the 22nd dynasty was "The Shoshenq Redemption".

Love longer form videos but the short form traveling highlights are really great too and make me want to watch the entire ATG series.

I'll probably never have the opportunity to visit these sites, Dr Miano, thank you for making these awesome videos!
At about 7:20 in this video, you're explaining how parts of the large statue were attached, and you say "dolleys" were used in the drill holes? Did you mean "dowels?" Either way, what would they have been made of?

I'm a very proud patreon supporter of Dr. Miano's work, and if you're reading this comment, why not go over and join for a few bucks a month as well? Help him make more videos like this!

When I first learned about this city when I was a kid, I loved saying it's name. Shoutout to the 1999(?) game Pharoah/Cleopatra for teaching me about ancient Egyptian geography. Can't wait to watch this one.

Interesting video on a subject I've never known other than that Egyptians revered domestic cats. Nice to learn more indepth background!

Sometime in the future, maybe you could do a video on "The Sea People" you mentioned early in the video. I have only found rather controverial info on them. Who were they (do we know)? What new tech did they have that put such a dent in Mediterranean cities, or did they? So many questions.

How did you resist titling this video the Shoshanq redemption?

Fun fact, the Egyptian word for cat was miu, yes, it’s also the characteristic crying sound of a cat. ‘English speaking’ cats meow, the Egyptian ones miu!😹

Not to take away from your presentation, as its completely accurate save 1 word. You said the cylinder drills were used to place "dollies" i think you meant dowels (like stone or wooden cylinders used as fasteners in lieu of screws, nails or glue)
I love your work, particularly the use of what is known and proven over speculation and conspiracy.

🙄 As I started watching, I began feeling the most profound dejavous. I was puzzling, didn't I already watch a video about Bubastite from "ATG?"

I did and it was titled, "Secrets of the Libyan Pharaohs" (from ATG 2mo ago).

And then I noticed "ATG Highlights" added to the title of this video.🙄

Curiosity has the better of me. I have to why did you decide to upload this instead of a new upload from your trip to Egypt? I was so looking forward to another instalment to the ATG from your Egyptian trip. Anyways, I thoroughly enjoyed them. They complement each other nicely!

Hmm...seems to be a lot of stuff fashioned from stone here, which is often really hard. And anything that I can't personally accomplish in about a week was probably done by aliens, because rocks are what aliens would build stuff from, having never developed other options.

These short-form videos are great. Sometimes it's hard to sit thru 1-3 hours of your regular lecture-style videos
