Q&A With Ex-Catholic Mike Gendron | Ask Redeemer

Mike Gendron, a former devout Roman Catholic turned Evangelical, talks with Pastor Todd Burgett about his journey of discovering that the Bible is diametrically opposed to Catholic teachings. He emphasizes three key points when engaging with Roman Catholics: Establishing the Bible as the supreme authority, highlighting Christ as the all-sufficient savior, and emphasizing the promise of eternal life through faith. Watch this Q&A to dive into the Bible vs Catholicism.

What did the pope recently say in an interview? That people are basically good.
What does Scripture say about people? That they have an evil heart and are lost.
Who do you want to follow?

Mike at one point dismisses the early Church Fathers (“how can we know these aren’t the men Paul warned us about”) those that were in the 2nd and 3rd century, then in the same paragraph says the canon was discovered by the early Church.

The canon wasn’t officially recognised until the 4th century. If he questions the 2nd and 3rd century Church, how does he accept the authority of the 4th century Church to recognise the canon?

The Bible he has (minus the 7 deuterocanonical books) was compiled by the same Church he rejects.

@CatholicOnTheSpectrum *Strong Christians who read the Bible would never believe in Roman Catholicism. So?*

Weak Catholics become Protestant and strong Protestants become Catholic.

When I was having a crisis in faith I went to see the priest, he was rude and told me had no time for me. Then I went to another priest, and I asked him if the bible was a part of the teachings of the church (I too had never read the bible because I was made to believe I wasn't privileged enough to understand it) and I was appalled when I was informed by this priest that the Roman Catholic church uses the bible only as a reference! I had by this time been attending a protestant bible teaching church. Praise God I was saved from an apostate church.

Apparently Mike Gendron will be debating Trent Horn later this year. Mike is about to have rude awakening.

He seems like he’s use to conversing with nominal Catholics who don’t know the faith.

I’m looking forward to seeing him across a formidable Catholic apologist like Trent Horn

This guy spouts so much b. The Church teaches we are saved by Grace Alone with Faith Working through Love. Roman Catholics? Really? What about all the other Catholic Churches like the Ukrainian Catholics, the Maronites, the Melkitea. C'mon you can't be this ignorant.

An embarrassment. Though I am not Roman Catholic; but Orthodox Catholic.

“How do you know these early church fathers weren’t the people Paul warned us about?”… “Let’s test these with the inspired Word of God”…

Do you not realise the early Church Fathers predate a canon of scripture? And it’s down to their teachings we know what IS the Word of God?

Protestants are historically ignorant.

This is why people tell Protestants to understand history - because on that account alone - it’s destroys the entire Protestant paradigm.

@CatholicOnTheSpectrum *WHy would Roman religion be biblical when 95% of it's clergies and 95% of it's doctrines are not from God's Word? Shouldn't a true church have 100% doctrines and 100% clergies from Scriptures?*

you said
Catholicism is all biblical.

Mike Gendron reminds me Jack Chick. He has his schtick and doesn't deviate from it.

It isn't faith that is a gift. It is salvation that is the gift.

@toneyh1 *Yet Roman religion has taught Peter to be the head of the Church for more than a millennial. Lol*

Do not be deceived there is one true gospel and one head of the church who is Jesus Christ, this is what the Catholic Church has taught for 2000 years.

So the uninspired church fathers were able to assemble the inspired 66 book canon and included 7 extra books that shouldn't have been in there? There theology was wrong but they still included St. Paul's letters that contradicted their theology? I'm going to need some explanation as to how this all worked out. Why would they include writings that they believe have the opposite meaning of what they believe God intended? I'm really struggling to follow that logic.

I'm also a bit skeptical that his uncle the Priest just told him God doesn't mean what he says. I'm sure that is how he interpreted what his uncle said but I'm very skeptical that is what was actually said.

@lanbaode *Strong Christians who know God's Word would not even think of joining Roman religion though. So?*

Gendron was a weak Catholic before and a weak Evangelical at this time. We Catholics have an adage about one's scope of Bible reading, study, and comprehension: "Weak Catholics become Evangelicals; Strong Evangelicals become Catholics."

Well martin luther would not agree with some of Mike's teachings Martin luther taught confession in his small catechism, but I'm not sure what type of protestant mike is anybody know?
