Showboating was never an issue..until it met its natural response..a crunching tackle. Some see it as entertainment a celebration of skill. Others find it unnecessary even disrespectful. Both views are valid because in football context matters. Reminds of Neymar in the 2015 Copa del Rey final. With Barcelona 3-0 up he pulled out flashy tricks & the Bilbao players were furious. Not because he wasn’t skilled..his flair was admired worldwide..but because timing made it look like provocation. Even Luis Enrique admitted he would’ve reacted the same way. Ronaldinho once faced a similar response after unnecessary showboating. Because football isn’t just skill..it’s culture & competition. In Brazil flair is celebrated. Maybe in Europe there’s an unspoken rule..when the game is won you don’t rub it in. Imagine Germany at 7-1 in the WC SF pulling tricks & flicks. Would it still be fun? Would Neymar’s defenders feel the same? Maybe this debate isn’t about stopping creativity but about knowing when & where to use it...

In USA, we wouldn't call them "show boaters" but rather "showboats"

In rugby we had a very infamous moment of showboating back in 2009 during the latter stages of a prem semi-final between London Irish and Wasps with the score at 10-10 when Irish’s Juan Manuel Leguizamon decided instead of directly dotting the ball down for a winning try to make a celebratory leap beforehand. Thus letting the ball slip from his graps in the wet conditions and quite literally ‘bombing’ the try. In the aftermath one commentator went as far as saying “if London Irish go on to lose this game i dunno what he’ll do during the night..” Fortunately Irish went on to win 13-10 through a late pen and JML got out of jail
