70s 80s kid here, our childhood was the last best childhood ever

I remember as a kid, no matter who's house you went to in the summer, there was always Kool Aid. I also remember seeing my Mom measure about 2 cups of raw sugar into the mix. Funny thing was none of us were overweight. All that bike riding, baseball, dodge ball, swimming burned the sugar right off.

My favorite "Flintstones" fan theory is that the stone age society that the Flintstones live in is actually a group of tech averse people that refused to live above the clouds and "The Flintstones" takes place at the same time as "The Jetsons".

I grew up in the 1960s and had a terrific childhood. Saturday cartoons, sugary cereals, the best toys and THE BEATLES. Plus I had a big brother who taught me how to have fun and the fact I never had to grow up. Thanks Jack.

If my parents were alive today, they would have been convicted of child abuse (yup! I got my butt lit up with yardsticks), child endangering (They let me find out about electricity and gravity on my own. I was warned by them to be careful. I built a tesla coil that used a 7600 volt neon sign transformer, that I still have, and produced well over 100, 000 volts, my own shortwave radio from a parts kit, and discovered that old TV's can still shock the hell out of you. We had tree forts 40 feet up a huge oak tree, a rope zipline that was 40-50' up an ash tree. The zipline was pretty basic. Big rope and high-rise handlebars. After that first leap of faith it was great!), neglect (In the summer, we took off in the morning, might show up for lunch, and then be home for dinner. A friend of mine and I rode 40 miles one day to catch some rattlesnakes. Found a bunch and home by dinnertime. Mom wasn't too excited about my new "pets."). These are but a few escapades that today's kids will forever be denied.
I wouldn't have swapped my parents for any others. They loved us, guided us, but let us be kids. Of course they weren't thrilled about some of our activities. How we made it to adulthood without losing eyes, fingers, arms and legs is purely a miracle.

I'm 39 and recently moved to a new place that's 4 blocks away from my childhood home. It's crazy! When I go to the local 711....I find myself always going down the street I grew up on. I don't have to...but I always do!

9:32 - When I had a labouring job in the mid 1990s, I had to knock down a wall between two bedrooms at an apartment block in Shard End in Birmingham ( UK ) where I lived until 1979. The manager saw me sitting cross-legged on the floor with a sledgehammer in my lap. He asked me what was taking so long. I got up and showed him the notches on the door frame where my sisters would measure my height. He left and came back with a bottle of brandy. We spent a couple of hours talking about TISWAS before I finally got to work., 😭

I did return to my childhood home in 2019! The same person who bought the house from my dad back in 1982 still lives there. I wrote a letter to a next-door neighbor who lives there, and she hand-delivered the letter to the owner. It was a bizarre and emotional experience. I grew up in that house during the 1970s and early 1980s . Lamoine Maine . From our back yard we can see Cadliac Mountain located In Arcadia National Park. Most of the home was changed the owner is a carpenter. He added a sunroom, had a garage built, and paved drive way put in. Took down the white picket fence, and removed the blueberries from the backyard. Removed the wood stove. But the brick wall was still there, my dads work bench in the basement was still there--where he made smoking pipes. The emotions and memories came back back like a ocean wave! I could still see and feel my dog's gauge marks she made with her nails when she used to jump on the kitchen wooden doors ! I loved that home my family and that town, latter i could post pics

Fun fact: a coyote can run from up to 20 mph for over 2 miles, up to 43 mph for short distances. And a roadrunner can only run as fast as 26 mph tops... He should have gotten the bird every time.

"The carefree vibe of the 30s" I'll grant that I wasn't around during the 1930s, but I've never heard the years of the Great Depression characterized as having a carefree vibe.
