Jamie is the living example of “I don’t know anything about this. Let’s dive in head first and figure it out.” I truly admire and respect him for his approach.

Whenever someone tries a new food and they fill their mouth with a huge bite I am always struck by their bravery.

You're in luck, if you like that there is a whole world of Asian pastries with similar fillings. My favorite is lotus seed filling.

Bean paste is a very common ingredient for asian dessert
Much like almond paste in pastry

I would binge this series voluntarily and not because it popped up randomly on the feed. I'd, like, seek it out. More. Moooore.

If you can find them around you, at an Asian restaurant, try sesame seed balls filled with mung bean paste. They’re so delicious. Also popular here in Michigan is munging ice cream usually served at like hibachi restaurant.

I have been doing this for years and I applaud you! Every time I visit a market, go to a restaurant, or order groceries I look for something new to try. If you don’t try anything new, how can you discover something great?

Try steaming it just a touch to warm it up. I LOVE them this way. Still flaky, but ooooh, it just kicks it up a notch.

You’ve likely had mung beans just called “butterbeans” in the US or adzuki beans in Japan. It’s a common filling for sweet pastries such as Chinese rice cakes or taiyaki, especially the red variety

Mung beans are the white bean sprouts. They are green when dried before sprouting.

Asia has a tendency to utilize beans to make milder sweets and pastries. Great stuff, honestly. ^^

I've heard of beet sugar being common enough in Europe. Not as sweet as cane sugar or the syrups we Americans are guilty of utilizing in everything, but still as versatile.

99 Ranch has a lot of very good baked pastries, especially their taro paste steamed buns that I tried for the first time from them. I have tried their frozen ones as well and their very good too. I love trying new and different snacks each time I go because the closet one to me is 2 hours away.
