SUPER STREET FIGHTER II 👊 SNES vs Genesis

preview_player
Показать описание
Super Street Fighter II hit the arcades in Japan and the US in September '93, followed by Europe in November '93. Then, the SNES and Mega Drive versions dropped in June '94 (Japan), July '94 (US), and August '94 (Europe).

Comparing the two, you've got these chunky sprites, a slick HUD, and backgrounds you can actually mess with. It's not like a quantum leap from the OG SFII games, but there's some definite improvement. Super Turbo steps it up with smoother animations and cooler artwork in the HUDs and post-match screens. Now, the Mega Drive's Super is a bit more blocky and low-res. The backgrounds are kinda meh, and you'll see those black borders at the top and bottom of the screen. Oh, and heads up, the SNES version plays it safe – Nintendo style – and ditches the blood from the post-match pics.

Sound-wise, they're both rocking iconic background tunes, satisfying sound effects, and decent voiceovers. The Mega Drive's Super takes a bit of a hit, especially in the background music department, but it hangs onto more voiceovers than the SNES version

For this #shorts we do a side-by-side comparison of both versions to contrast the graphic and sound differences. #snes #genesis #megadrive #streetfighter2 #superstreetfighter2 #ssf2 #bitsandbeats #60fps

That 3 button controller on Genesis though...that was the real showstopper

No real discernible difference if looking purely at character sprites, but the SNES obviously had superior colour versus the Genesis possessing a higher resolution. Dare I say - the Genesis version appears to have a few more frames of animation.

On a broader note, the SNES had more detailed backgrounds on this particular version of the game, there were missing details on the Genesis version (more notably on DeeJay's stage).

Overall though, the Genesis played closer to the arcade.

The SNES versions remain my favourite though due to them just feeling like their own unique ports of the game with the sound scheme used for both sound effects and music.

Really close, a lot of respect to Capcom for the Sega Conversion, especially when you have way less colors to work with.

I grew up with the snes version, so I'm biased and like the snes version more in all aspects

The genesis looks like more fluid animation

Super Street fighter on Genesis or MD is by far the better port you can increase the speed play on both ports but only on Sega could you play expert mode enabling you to fight all 16 characters

I own both and the color palette, character animation & sound FX are far superior on the SNES

These are the first two games that actually almost look identical on both consoles.

I was fine with the controller on the snes, I binded the LP and LK attacks to them.

FR button was very accessible and convenient.
FL less so in the heat of the moment, but I not use light kick much in game under high pressure situations.

Snes version was best, but I don't know, Super was crap because I was already into super turbo from the coin op which was far superior.

Looks very close, the sprites are the same. Same size, same resolution, same animation frames. But the SNES game looks and sounds better (altrough the Genesis version has an announcer voice at the begin of each round and no music pause between the rounds).

They used the same redrawn for console sprites on both of these, & the Turbo Grfx one too

I had both at that time the one I played over and over again the Snes Ver. My Genesis ver. I just had to my collection of my sega library, sometimes I tried. You know, because I felt Snes ver. was better.

The Genesis Ryu intro has way more animation. Look it up.

I like both, as a kid I never had Sega gen or Nintendo just Nes and the arcade in SA, alway wondered how they would port it and how it would look , it seemed impossible but they did it and Sega did it i an older system, seeing that in SA for the 1st time was super epic!. Also I didn't know Sega Gen was old then, we had nes come in and Sega Genesis in the early 90's in South Africa.

Better to compare og cps1 sf2 to cps2 ssf2

Bastante cercanos.
Pero creo que el SEGA tiene un color más "quemadito" e intenso, en contraparte de la SNES.
En cuanto a juego, siempre preferiré la SNES, cuando jugué en SEGA con ese tamal de control de 3 botones, sinceramente no me gustó D:

The genesis port looks and feels closer to the arcade port. (CPS1 only). The new challengers and Turbo visually and control wise are almost perfect on SNES.
