openSUSE Leap 42.1 arrives with GNOME 3.16.2, also bring GNOME Shell 3.16 as default desktop. In openSUSE Leap 42.1, GNOME 3.16 user interface has been improved and updated such as the Activities Overview, login screen, system menus and other system components have been given a new, more contemporary look.

The new visuals are designed to integrate with the visual style of GNOME applications, for a more seamless experience. GNOME 3.16 also introduce a new style of scrollbar. Instead of being shown all the time, these new overlay scrollbars are only shown when needed: a small scroll indicator is shown when the pointer is moved, and a larger bar appears when control is wanted.

Since i installed opensuse leap on my main machine i have loved it endlessly. Thanks guys for the best distro i have ever used. i used to distro hop but now my search is over, everything works flawlessly. I can't thank opensuse team enough. Opensuse will live forever!!! It just works, my setup includes R for number crunching and boy does it work like a champ! Also full multimedia workstation and i am more than impressed. I am so impressed that i will switch every computer i admin to opensuse leap. It is the answer to FOSS enterprise computing fairly better than Centos in my opinion.

I have been using openSuse since version 9.2 (2004) and have been using it for both server and workstation / laptop installs.

There are a view advantages that Suse has over other distributions, such as the Yast configuration tools, easy to use Active directory replacement and Novells own extensions for both Libreoffice and Firefox.

I have a few concerns about the future of Suse, these include issues surrounding the fact that Novell has stopped creating a 32bit install, their usage of BTRFS and their roadmap of replacing KDE 4 with KDE / Plasma 5 (which is considered as currently unstable and looks less-professional when compared to KDE4).

For the moment, I am going to stick with version 13.2 and when Novell decides to drop further support for this version (which will be around the first quarter of 2017), I am intending to use the Evergreen repository (I have created my own repository which will grab installation RPMs from the external repositories).

Also, I am not a big fan of the Gnome desktop environment and will be intending to keep with KDE version 4.x (currently v4.14.9. I am also hoping that somebody will create a forked version of v4.x).

I just wish they would tell you the net installation image is broken. Otherwise three thumbs up for the dev team.
