DEEP DIVE DUBAI - THE WORLD DEEPEST POOL

The world’s deepest – and undoubtedly coolest – diving pool, Deep Dive Dubai, is opening late July, and Time Out can tell you it is a mightily impressive body of water.

Sinking more than 60 metres downward, the mega maw has swallowed an entire suburb, full of faux abandoned apartments, a waterlogged library of sunken tomes, games room complete with working table foosball and dazzling street graffiti that still shines despite not seeing the light of day.

Housed in the Nad Al Sheba neighbourhood, the colossal pool holds 14 million litres of water, and has taken Dubai’s already booming dive scene to fresh heights (or should that be depths?).

Deep Dive Dubai includes what will be the region’s most advanced hyperbaric chamber to treat any unwanted cases of the bends, and divers are promised plenty of additional surprises in the submerged city.

Deep Dive Dubai also has dry chambers at 6m and 21m below the surface, with 56 underwater cameras covering all angles, and advanced sound and mood lighting systems giving the vast pool of H20 a movie set hue.

Shaped like a giant oyster in a nod to the UAE’s pearl diving heritage, Deep Dive Dubai is also home to a dive shop, 80-seat restaurant that will open later this year, as well as meeting, event and conference spaces.

The pool’s fresh water is filtered and circulated every six hours through siliceous volcanic rock, NASA-developed filter technology and UV radiation in one of the largest and fastest filter systems in the region.

Water temperature is maintained at an optimal 30 degrees Celsius, and all necessary gear is ready for hire at the facility.

Viewing areas on the lower floors of the building allow landlubbers dining in the restaurant to wave to divers on their travels.

Freediving and scuba diving experiences and courses are offered to all ability levels by a team of international dive pros.
