This model still shows why hornby is still in the game, they still know how to produce an amazing model. yes the price is stupidly expensive but my blinded love for the p2 has overpowered my hand

Well done Sam for giving the retailer a shout out. Good customer service deserves recognition these days.👏😀

I think the firebox lighting effect shows up best when the crew figures are installed - their blue overalls are far lighter than the cab interior, and would, along with the flesh colour of their hands and faces, reflect the red and yellow light quite well.

An obsurud price for sure but I think we can wholeheartedly accept that this model demonstrates getting what one pays for. Other then the weight and plastic construction as you say, what a model!
Another great review Sam

Hats off to Derails. They sent biscuits with my Rapido Lion too. Great Service 😊

I got mine today (Prince of Wales). Took a bit longer since I don't live in the UK. It really is an amazing model.

WOW, what a beautiful model. Thanks for the review Sam.I'm glad I discovered you. Gave up on trains when we moved into a small bungalow. Then watched Hornby, a model world and something hit the heart. TT. apols for going off track slightly but I have always been a model railwayer for many years when I received the Princess Elizabeth set in the Late 50's early 60's? Anyway, thanks again, I love watching your videos.

I'm still into trains even after 9 years, I've never own any of hornby models, but i just like watching them, seeing it go around your layout with all those engines in the background made me even more appreciate hornby models, its super realistic.
My favorite train is be the B12 you reviewed, something so simple but charming, hope you won't stop posting train models.

This is the P2 we should have had instead of the earlier incarnation - I might have been able to afford it back then too! Good to see that Hornby have dusted off the 'good tin' of LNER green on this one - much better than the washed out effort they did on Chamossaire.

I have always been a critic of Hornby over the last few years after buying their products since 1977. However I think you have underrated this one. Thinking of this as a kit loco it is a good price and the execution is amazing.

Lots of the P2s, including this one, seem to have shipped with the guard irons missing from the detail pack. Will be interesting to see how well Hornby customer services react to getting the missing parts out to buyers.

This locomotive is my new favourite Hornby Model. Words cannot explain how much I approve of everything during this review. Keep up the good work Sam.

Wow, just wow. Compared to my old Railways P2, this is quite amazing. I was considering Prince of Whales, but at the moment, I'm all good I'm looking at other models. This one I will consider though once funds allow me to buy it. My old P2 is a lovely engine, except that the mechanism is quite insulting. 8 driving wheels and no bearings and a seriously crappy 3-pole motor. It runs quite badly now after all these years and with very low torque. However, I must say, this loco looks amazing. The finish is beautiful and no parting line. The cab detail is very similar to my Dublo Scotsman and the tender connector as well. Basically like Dapol now. Very easy to just uncouple the tender and don't have to faff around with the fiddly plug. The performance is also quite mind-blowing and the slow-downs are somewhat forgivable to me due to the massive wheelbase. Yes, it's very expensive, but I think you get a good model here. Great job from Hornby, definitely better than their Thompson Pacifics 👍👍

Having a highly detailed, technically accurate review of a "loco" that I can't afford is the next best thing to ownership. Thanks for all you do, Sam and especially - thanks for sharing. BTW, with this review I'll be able to afford proper meals for a while longer...

Hi Sam. Your reviews are absolutely essential viewing for anyone trying to live within his or her means! Your judgements are shrewd and detailed reviews, rather than seductive adverts. Value for money is, of course, more subjective but even here your comparative data is really helpful. In the end, performance is critical. Who wants a super-detailed model that doesn’t run well?

I made a playlist of some of your engine reviews it’s specifically ones that inspired engines from the railway series and thomas the tank engine there’s 35 of them so far.

Hi Sam, an excellent and useful review.

The model looks fabulous, I agree it might have been nice to have a diecast running plate/boiler considering the price, but the weight should still be plenty for traction, especially considering the good quality motor and small driving wheels.

I've got the Hornby Club sister loco 'Thane of Fife' on order, which is at a considerably lower RRP of £199.99. Once you factor in the 10% discount from club membership you actually pay £180. Still not exactly cheap, but far less than 'Lord President'.

When you also consider the reward points that's another £18 you can take off your next order and effectively equates to £162.

N.B. The diecast Dublo A4s, also have the same loco-tender connection, flickering firebox and 21pin DCC.

I always appreciate your reviews as I do think it holds the likes of Hornby and such accountable. Great work Sam.
