5 HVAC Factors for Higher SEER or EFFICIENCY!

In this video, we talk about what makes one HVAC system more efficient than another. These five things can affect how high the SEER will be and what you can expect from a system with a higher SEER rating. What actually makes one HVAC system more efficient than another? We also throw in a couple extra things at the end to consider if you are trying to make your system as efficient as possible. A more efficient HVAC system will mean lower electric bills.

I have a 10 seer from 1990, do I need to upgrade to 16seer? My summer bill in Arizona for July is going to be $450

The reason larger condenser and evaporator sizes leads to higher efficiency is that the entropy generated at those locations is proportional to the heat transfer (think BTU/hr) times the difference in temperature across the heat exchanger. Entropy generation is the engineer way of saying "inefficiency". That's why the newer systems also need larger ducts, since the cold air coming off the evaporator isn't as cold as in the old days. I'm a chemical engineer who didn't specialize in refrigeration but I still remember my basic thermodynamics. There are of course other ways they increase efficiency like better/smarter metering, better compressors, and other stuff, but the larger heat exchangers is a big part of it. The downside of the higher evaporator temperature is that now that I upgraded to a new high-efficiency unit I had to buy a dehumidifier and run it all the time or my house molds.

I used to do ac work and even up north, blew me away with the size of a new carrier 2 ton ac. Was as big as the 3 ton from 2005.

Hello from Ecuador: hoping all is well/ brother we have issues with inverter hvac here, regardless of what the brand is, due to horrid electricity and spikes the fan motors in the ahu stops functioning. Do you have any recommendations to avoid this issue. Regardless of brands all fan motors die in 1 year.

Higher SEER aka Efficiency or cheaper cost of operation would ideally be in todays world the Inverter series of Bosch. The load draw on that unit is considerably LESS compared to most others resulting in cheaper cost for use. The 5 Ton Bosch Inverter unit is a bit more costly if you are a customer like me who buys my AC units direct to avoid the upcharge most in air companies tend to do. So I had a 5 Ton Rheem 16 seer heat pump which cost me $4100 and upgraded to a 5 Ton Bosch 20 seer heat pump inverter system that cost $7000. The draw load is FAR less with Bosch that Rheem and my power use has dropped by half

Inverter hvac systems have been in use in USA since the 80s.. I've installed them since the early 2000s .. they're just less expensive now

And if SP are bad because of duct work SEER can be at 50%

When do you predict single stage air conditioners no longer being manufactured? Apparently Lennox offers a 18 seer single stage ac. So even if 18 seer becomes the minimum by law, we know 18 seer is achievable in a single stage.

i just installed Daikan 2 tons 17 seer mini spilt with one air handler in living area of my 2000sf 4 bedrooms high ceiling 2014 model year home in Fresno which we have 3 months of over 100 deg every day and i can't be Happer . its awesome just take 5 minute to feel temperature dropping and now i just running this mini spilt unit for cooling down whole house and even don't bother with turning on of my old central system any more . with my original 2.5 tons central unit was taking for ever to temp go down when temp outside was over 90 ( with unit having full gas and new air filter and nothing wrong with it )

Don’t know why people (besides builders) would want to install a low SEER system
