Welcome to the first 4K virtual walking tour on this channel. In this video you can travel along in the inner city of Thessaloniki, Greece. Passing some of its main sights and taking in some of its lively streets and ambience, this video should give you a good impression of what visiting Thessaloniki is like.
Thessaloniki is quite a densely populated city and with about 325.000 inhabitants the second largest city in Greece after Athens. It's an important port city in Southern Europe and is the center of the economy in Northern Greece. It's located on the Aegean Sea and furthermore has about 1 million people living in its metropolitan area.
Street life and traffic can be quite hectic in Thessaloniki we have noticed. This is largely due to how densely populated it is and the lack of large scale urban transportation. There is no metro or tram, just buses and taxis. A metro system has been under construction for almost 15 years however, and it's safe to say that it's much needed. The footage is from September 2021 on a cloudy day.
