The Razer Blade Studio has a crazy RTX Quadro 5000 graphics card, and Nvidia Cuda is BETTER than AMD for Video Editing in Premiere & Resolve, Right?

The fact that the MacBook doesn't lose power is IMO the most underrated feature of the device. The last Windows laptop I bought gave me significantly worse performance when it was unplugged. And it being kind of a 2 in 1 device that is meant to be used unplugged (it was a surface pro 3), I just felt having to be tethered to the wall to get decent performance made it not nearly as appealing I never heard anyone talking about that issue before I bought the machine, and so i learned the hard way. I still don't think that issue gets talked about enough and I'm so glad you highlighted it here Max. It's like, if you MUST have the thing plugged in to get the best performance, AND your battery life is terrible when your machine is not plugged in, at that point you might as well get a 17" behemoth seven pound laptop....

I stopped paying for greedy adobe because they are useless turds when it comes to hardware utilization. When I started editing with Filmora 9, I was able to render a 10 minute 4K clip in less than 4 minutes while the same clip would take 20 minutes in adobe and I have a 2019 BEAST Machine so I should be able to get good performance

So you’re telling me the Razor Blade, a laptop, which is supposed to be a portable, wireless device that you can use and take anywhere, is only utilizing its full potential when it’s not portable or wireless and instead tied down to a wall plug...

Premiere is basically dying right now. Or rather turning into Avid.

This Razer model is priced at 4, 399€ in Europe! That's outrageous. Who has the bravery to carry a 4, 399€ machine out in the streets? I certainly not.

There is a reason why a lot of both premiere and final cut folks switch to resolve. It's even faster if you have background rendering enabled.

I would still get the MacBook Pro for FCPX. For the type of videos I am producing it works very well and efficiently. Thank you for this comparison. It was fun to watch more than once.

Another take away - Resolve can take full adv of MBP just like FCPX. Thanks Max this is the best Razor review yet

I feel bad for any Premiere user, it is so slow, rendering and exporting takes absolutely for ever with most codecs, it’s actually depressing. That engine is really outdated

Incredible comparison! Thank you SO much Max. I wish more YouTube videos focused in meaningful educational content like this instead of clickbait and RGB everything.

13:00 There is an error. You put MSI P75 on the screen rather than Razer Studio.

When it comes to video, I work on Macs. I've used Macs since the very first one. Macs are more stable than any PC I've ever used. I work in visual effects and most studios use PC. We deal with large files and large resolutions. If I had a choice I would still work on a Mac. One studio I worked for started out on Macs, moved to Windows, and then reverted back to Macs a few years ago. When it comes to stability, you just can't beat a Mac. Sorry.

Thanks for the awesome content as always. I would love to see an updated video in the state of eGPU’s and how they are working with the MBP.

Max, was this before DR 16.1.2 with the NVIDIA Decode and Debayer for RED files on Resolve? The RTX cards are supposed to really enhance working with RED files. Would be interested in a follow up.

Would love to see this done with one of the new laptops coming out with the 4000 series AMD APU laptops.

Hi Max, I'm a tech prod. reviewer too, and I encountered the same scenario, that the Razer is sadly way slower in performance when unplugged especially compared to MacBook Pro. I was wondering is there any override mode in BIOS or other settings where one could say sacrifice battery life more and push the performance to the max while unplugged? Cause to be honest when unplugged editing is no problem, but exporting is not acceptable at all, it is very slow when unplugged.

I have owned 4 laptops in a row, all with QUADRO cards, costing between $7 - $10K each. The times a QUADRO card shows an advantage are so rare and specific I have decided they are massively overpriced and their “specialization” 95% of the of the time useless. This only applies to video editing BTW. I cannot speak to CAD use, perhaps that’s where they perform.
The regular gaming version equivalent GPUs are all you need. I now have regular RTX 2060 that’s killing it. I will soon have an RTX 2080 and will spend the extra $3000 on screen and name drive upgrades.
