‘This might be the year’: China’s military targeting Taiwan

A country doesn't commit to a treaty just for the sake of committing to that treaty, and then abandon it the moment the treaty gets activated. The issue here no-one is thinking about is Japan. Japan has said if China attacks Taiwan - it will come to Taiwan's aid - militarily. And the U.S. is a Japanese ally. Whilst China might think - Taiwan is not a strong U.S. ally. Japan is.

And Japan is the key here.
