CITI Program Webinar Demo - CRISPR Genome Editing: Rewriting DNA and the Future of Humanity

Показать описание
The CRISPR-Cas9 system lets scientists rewrite DNA in living cells and organisms, editing the genetic code that defines life itself. Powerful real-world applications are already happening in basic, biomedical, and agricultural research. As such, applications of CRISPR-Cas9 raise ethical and philosophical questions that must be grappled with sooner than later.
This webinar illustrates how CRISPR genome editing lets scientists rewrite the genetic code; reviews some current examples of how CRISPR is being used in basic, biomedical, and agricultural research; provides an update on the ongoing ethical issues and governance responses associated with CRISPR genome editing; and offers some expert advice and resources for how to get involved in CRISPR genome editing.
Learning Objectives:
- Describe how CRISPR genome editing lets scientists rewrite the genetic code.
- Explain how editing the genomes of various organisms, including humans, can help scientists learn about nature, develop disease treatments, and make agriculture more sustainable.
- Discuss the ethical and philosophical questions associated with CRISPR genome editing.
Presented by: Megan Hochstrasser, PhD - Innovative Genomics Institute at the University of California, Berkeley
