Buzz bait with braid I've found a softer parabolic rod work best too stiff a rod you will take it away from them often times
Thanks for all you do Miles !!

I'm an avid Whopper Plopper user. I actually use it year round in the Ohio Valley with great success. You did such a great job in your review I couldn't help but comment. You hit on the fact that you can pause the Whopper Plopper and not the Buzz Bait, but you didn't emphasize all the other different types of retrieves you can do with the Whopper Plopper that you simply can't do with the Buzz Bait. Like stop and go, popping it, slow retrieve, fast retrieve, and jerk. Those options often make the difference between getting a strike and not getting a strike. Especially in weather extremes such as really hot or very cold.

Thanks Miles two custom absolutes with the whopper plopper swap out those heavy wire hooks for a little lighter gauge hook, add a swivel unless you like line twist😂

Haven't caught a whopper plopper fish in 3 yrs, but caught my first buzz bait fish last Fall. I am going to focus on both this year now that we have water in CA

My wife uses a plopper 90% of the time and catchs 100+ bass per year in our shorter season in MN.

Oh yeah, I don't know if this is the downside you're experiencing in ultra shallow water with the Whopper Plopper, but what I've found is the Whopper Plopper is so heavy it actually sinks 1-1/2 to 2 feet when it hits the water on a long cast. It will hit the bottom and foul in ultra shallow water. What I do, when possible, is throw it into a deeper pocket and then guide it over the ultra shallow strike zone. Guiding it is also another advantage over the Buzz Bait.

Great video! Some of my biggest smallmouth bites in South Dakota have been on a whopper plopper with a reel-pause retrieve

How about your top five baits & or techniques for when you have a good limit and now you need a kicker.

Yes I have some of those water poppers

The whopper ploppers ability to pause is huge. I’ve caught most of my big bass on that bait on the pause. Also with rod twitches it makes pops like a popper. So you get an extra trigger for a bass that may be looking but not committing

Man, I couldn’t buy a top water bite last year. Whopper ploppers are what got me bites. I tried frogs and buzz baits and walkers and props and jitterbugs… whipper plopper came through. 😂

Speaking of topwater...to me, a popper and a prop type ( devil's horse, boy howdy, spin rocket, etc ) are very similar in style and how you work them. Do you have a method of picking one type over the other or do you just have an overall preference for one type more than the other?

Miles I got one. I just fished some really thick Lilly pads. What are my best bets for fishing this effectively? I used a 3/16" swimming worm but was hung up a lot. 20lb braid with 20lb flouro leader. Furthermore I lost most of the good fish as they buried me into the pads. My rod was a 7-2 med heavy with a slow 4.9 reel. Was it equipment related? Would I be better off with a faster reel. Was I just not fast enough keeping the fish up? Man I got the beat down put on me. I have exclusively spinning gear. Do i need to upgrade to a mondo rod? Ps it was down in the super thick Florida pads. Thanks Miles!

I really don't agree with the statement of 90% of anglers don't know this. A lot of anglers know that is one isn't producing that you might want to change out what you're throwing.

I’ll sum up the video to save you some time.

lol fishing video titles have gone full out clickbait over the last year. "100% OF ALL ANGLERS, ARE DOING THIS WRONG", "ONLY 1% OF FISHERMAN DO THIS RIGHT" -- lmfao stop with the b.s. and find truth in your content.
