Fibroscan and Liver Health

Most people who've had a liver biopsy don't want to undergo another one, but for certain illnesses, repeat biopsies are necessary. But now VCU Health providers are using a new technology that doesn't involve a needle, the risk of complications or pain.

Fibroscan uses elastography, a technique similar to ultrasound, that measures the stiffness of your liver. It is a noninvasive, painless alternative to liver biopsy to look for liver damage from conditions such as cirrhosis or Hepatitis C.

It does not hurt at all! I have had several and it is so much better than a liver biopsy! Very little pressure is needed!

I had a Fibroscan today.I have T2 Diabetes and was referred by my Doctor bcos I have high liver function.My liver is fine I was just advised to eat healthy cut down on processed food and move more!!

I had a liver scan yesterday, And it hurt With the pressure, I said this to the doctor But he said he has to apply some pressure. So I had to grim and bear it.

I have to go for an ultrasound liver test in uk. Might it be this fibroscan technology? I am also having blood tests to see if I have hepatitis which I am shocked about. I did have a 9 pint blood transfusion in 1997 .... so dont know if this could be related. I am glad it seems the treatment options are better in the last few years

My mom has fibrosis stage 2 and have fibroids in the uterus.. but due to high sgpt and sgot level the hysterectomy couldn't be done.. due to fibroids in uterus heavy bleeding occurs which leads to hemoglobin loss if medication for bleeding not taken.. again medication for bleeding worsening the liver condition and causing high sgpt sgot level.. which is again the reason for postponing the hysterectomy.. please give some suggestions...
