THEY LIED TO US !! EU4 Norway Has NORSE MISSION PATH

IMPORTANT! Seems like the 1% change to get norse isn't viable anymore since they grayed out ( # ) the event choice after they fully released the dlc. I recorded this is early access when it wasn't the case.

Right now THE ONLY way to get Norse is via the 'Wave of Curiosity' event that can be triggered by a scandinavian culture nation.

EU4 Norway can become Norse via a secret set of events that make it the eu4 ultimate colonial nation too at the same time!

9:09 Some info on Eriksfjord:
That region in south eastern Greenland was actually called Eriksfjord by Erik the Red probably around 982. However, he was not the one who discovered Greenland, which happend 50 - 100 years prior. Gunnbjörn was blown of course while sailing from Norway to Iceland between 876 to 932 when he spotted some islands which probably were parts of Greenland. He ist considered the first European to have discovered Greenland and therefore geographical North America. His sightings were reported and therefore known in Iceland. But as the sightings had mere accidental nature, they where neglected in Greenlandish history.
About 982 Erik the Red was exiled from Iceland after he slayed some Norse Icelanders. He then headed to the region he called Eriksfjord (the south western tip of Greenland behind later known Cape Farewell). During his 3 years of exile he discovered the region and came back to Iceland. There he advertised the newly found lands as Greenland to attract colonists. Due to a famine in Iceland he managed to assemble 25 ships of colonists of which 14 reached Greenland. There he founded the Eastern Settlement (nowadays Qaqortoq) and the Western Settlement (near present-day capital Nuuk). Both where the only regions where farming was possible in Greenland. Even now, you can still find about 500 groups of Norse farm ruins and 16 church ruins. The ruins of the Erik the Reds family estate of Brattahlio with the first christian church in Greenland can still be visited. Its part of the UNESCO World Heritage List.
In the early years of the colony they mainly lived of livestock and farming. Due to a climate deterioration in the 14th century later the colony mainly relied on fishing. It was abandoned in the 14th century due to soil erosion (because of overgrazing), the effects of the Black Death or because of fighting with the native Inuit (however, the last reason is based on Inuit legend rather than archaelogical studies).
So, Erik the Red was the first European to have settled on Greenland.

Fun Fact: The son of Erik the Red, Leif Erikson, is believed to be the first European to have set foot on continental North America. There is a Norse settlement in Vinland (todays Newfoundland, Canada) today called L'Anse aux Meadows which was occupied in between 990 - 1050 CE. This might be the settlement Leif Erikson founded when he reached continental North America about 500 years prior to Christopher Columbus.

The name Eiriksfjord is from the saga of Eirik the Red and he lived there in his settlement named Brattahlíð

Sweden has a path to Norse as well, it's just a bit more hidden and complex

Now we need the same for Gallic, Hellenic and eastern cultures!
There should be branching missions with specific criteria leading to the restoration of all major dead faiths in eu4!

My wife and I visited Stockholm briefly once a few years back. The Vassa was definitely a highlight. We loved learning all about it, and it really is amazing to see such a well-preserved example of an old style ship (even if it's a little top-heavy).

Wow! I’m so glad they ended up adding norse through that event, it’s already ahistorical anyways so it’s nice that they could add a little fun to it

That copper mine monument is OP as hell. As Sweden I was making 50 ducats from it by 1530.

I feel like since Paradox is going down this path they should have more pagan paths for all nations: Hellenic for Byzantium/Greece/Roman Empire, Canaanite (with Carthage formable) for Tunis, Celtic for Ireland and maybe Wales/Scotland/UK, also get Mesopotamian and Kemetic religions in there...would be seriously fun times and make the custom nation designer that much better to boot. :D

a note! if you check the wiki under "norse events, " there's also a separate event chain you can follow to get norse as your state religion without having to be force converted by rebels! it has a long list of requirements, and a low chance of really working out, but it's doable.

It would be really cool if they added a Hellenic religion in the next update

Fun fact, it's not really called Erik's Fjord anymore but there's a fjord near the southern tip of Greenland with a few Viking settlement ruins, vestbygden is just West Greenland now, in Greenlandic it's kitaa, just west
