As an American, I must apologize to my Canadian neighbors. I lived in northern VT during my final high school years and spent a lot of time in Canada. I joined the military and served from 17-40 years old. I served with Canadians in Afghanistan, Greenland, and other parts of the Middle East. I am embarrassed by my President-elect. Though I did not vote for him, I am stuck with him and want my friends up North to know you have my utmost respect and appreciation for all you do...as Canadians.

Would you defend a place where you cant even afford to buy a home? Jacking up homes prices in the last decade screwed an entire generation of Canadians and they are angry. I think this is probably why the Americans think this is a easy move. If we are to have a vote tomorrow, many young Canadians who got screwed will vote yes out of anger. Canada's weakness is a threat to arctic security. Which is extremely important now. I have always been a proud Canadian, but Trump is right. Canadian sovereignty, in it's present form, is a liability to the security (and prosperity) of the United States. And Canada has very little available to use as leverage. And, also, no practical means available to protect our sovereignty.
.... Sorry folks. That's geopolitics for you, like it or not. You can be as indignant as you like. But not only is Trump 100% right, he's also holding all the cards. C'est la vie.
