I like the sides edges straight and never use binding anywhere unless I made a mistake or the fabric is too short.
I double hem every edge, it only requires an inch and two folds.

Hi - thanks for the excellent video. It was very helpful. To sew the last 2" of the velcro zipper flap - the outside 1/3 of the window is rolled up and needs to be under the sewing machine arm to complete? Thanks.

One thing that would save you a lot of time would to cut the zipper with a hot knife and melt the zipper teeth on each side so that they slightly expand and stop the zipper. Works Flawless! Trust me I've done it lots and lots of times. Wouldn't pay a dime for that cheap sewing machine though. Get a good quality Durkopp Adler machine will save you enough time and work that it'll pay for itself even faster than that one. But overall very nice job!
