India permanent representative to the United Nations TS Tirumurti set the record straight at a high-level event on hate speech at the global forum. Indian ambassador said combating the Religiophobia should not be a "selective exercise" involving only one or two religions but apply equally to phobias against non-Abrahamic religions. Tirumurti said India’s multicultural edifice has, over centuries, made it a safe haven for all those who seek refuge in India, whether the Jewish community or Zoroastrians or Tibetans or from its own neighbourhood. Tirumurti made these remarks at an event marking the first anniversary of the International Day on Countering Hate Speech. Watch this video for more.

Two words that he emphasised upon - "religiophobia " and "non - abrahamic" religion bias, is much appreciated.

As a Tibetan refugee in India, I can vouch for everything he has said . India is safe haven for all religion and ours have prospered in every aspect . Government of India has provided us with free education even when her own people are in poverty. India not only provided us with refuge but also respected us, educated us and gave us dignity.

Such high and sophisticated English language to explain India's greatness to the representatives of the countries of the OIC is like throwing pearls before swine. Obsessed with irrational and one sided views, Indian democracy and her pluralism are taboos to the religious bigots. India must stand for a Hindu nation and compel the UN for a resolution against Hindu phobia.

Calling Bhagwan Ram a misogynist is fine. Insulting Hindu gods is fine. But one statement is all the international countries need to pounce on India.

Edit: On twitter, there's a post that says that "Shiva, Brahma and Vishnu were r*apists" and that "r*ping for these gods was the Hindu way of life". And after this these people have the sheer audacity to revolt against a comment that is a fact.

Thank you for calling out this hypocrisy and the double-standards.

It must be marked as one of the strongest speeches in UN. It is really rare to see such non biased and transparent views at international platforms. Jai Hind 🇮🇳 Vande Mataram

I am Indian Muslim and I agree with him. There is no religious intolerance in India. Whether it be Islam Christianity and Sikhism, all are respected in India with equal dignity. In India, no one calls for genocide of Muslims. It's just western propaganda.
Proud Indian Army. 🇮🇳🇮🇳

As an Indian I am really concerned about UN stand . UN is only for three religion and they work for middle east and western nations. They completely ignore Asia and it's existing religion. Like Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism and other Asian communities.

Am shocked with the reaction from the UN ! Are you unaware of the respect accorded to all religions in India. Those who conquered have remained for long. Hindus never interfere with other religions. Those who defended their own beliefs unfortunately quoted from the Quran but were dealt with and apologized. So let peace reign once more.

Sanatana Dharma is world's oldest practiced Dharma. It deserves full recognition and any atrocity committed against it should be recognised and condemned.
