In these COVID-19 times many organisations feel that the only means to survival is to make employees redundant. They too often do this without any consultation with those employees about other options. This discussion I had with Gary Ryan was triggered by the University of Melbourne's well published intentions to do just that. We discuss the bigger picture in this move. What are universities for? What kind of leaders do we need there to lead through these challenging times? We believe that what's important in these difficult times is that leaders don't just focus on what they need to DO but to equally focus on what kind of leaders do they need to BE to meet these extraordinary challenges. Part of that is engaging their people and having authentic conversations with them.
