Sonos S2 12.0.3 update for Controller App and speaker firmware - what it means for the Sonos Arc

Показать описание
Sonos has released the S2 12.0.3 update for both the mobile app and the firmware on the speaker. I test it out with the Sonos Arc to figure out what has changed on the firmware side of things.

I realise, that maybe it doesn't matter anymore and I share my way of how I deal with the problem and overcome the Sonos Arc's shortcoming.

I was watching this while updating the firmware and immediately as I went on the app after update. Your voice slightly changed and the bass was less. Thanks for the info Peter!. I have been watching all of your past videos. I appreciate your hard work and attention to detail.

Peter, great channel, had to subscribe, keep up the great in-depth work.

Just ordered my Sonos Arc, waiting for delivery. One question, for those that do not have eARC or indeed an Atmos source TV... is it plausible to circumnavigate the atmos tv parent device straight into the Arc? Could we connect the Arc to an AV receiver and have the arc, the surrounds and the sub, run like a normal setup connected to the arc, which itself is plugged into the AV, itself then into an arc TV or ARC projector?

Basically can we cheat the restrictions?

This is the best lighting you done in the room so far. Most of the time its kinda dim and LEDs behind your tv is over done when it's super dim in your room. I only say that because anything black just doesn't show in detail, even on a oled...

Good observation
I have the arc wall mount, but to mount the arc on a tv cabinet, and because the mount has a magnetic pick up it reduces the base slightly, which I didn’t want. I have actually located the magnet and removed it from the mount and the arc sounds much better in my set up, maybe this should be an option in the app to switch arc wall mount on or off..? Some people like me may use the wall mount but not necessarily to place it up against a wall..?

So, I may have missed this- so I apologize in advance. Did this effect how the Arc sees this as wall mounted or not? I’m pretty sure despite it being against the wall, it needs Sonos’ wall mount to decipher whether or the system sees it as wall mounted or not, right? In which case- I guess my question is a moot point. But it sure is interesting how just the placement can make such a big difference. I have mine basically hanging off my tv stand, thinking that any downward audio from it would maybe reflecting too soon if it’s pushed back and on the flat surface versus hanging off and going towards the floor. I wish I had the time (and energy to go back and forth and figure it all out. That’s why I keep coming back to you Peter! Thanks again for your care, thought and insight!! ❤️

Peter, what you are talking about here is only about the bass in the Arc. So if the sub is also used, it would not matter then, right?

Thank you 🙏 for this video, Sonos decided to lower the power volume to mask the cracking noise Base on your experience would you consider the the playbar it’s better than the ARC ? So I came across with an article. Dated July 18 2020 Gear Patrol where Chris Davies ( senior director of audio engineering of Sonos ). Claimed that the ARC has more Bass than the Playbar, ARC is louder and sound better at loud volumes and the ARC is full on 5.0 system ( not sure 🤔 what he meant by that )

I actually find the new update sounds much better than before especially listening to music.

Some say u need to retune to hear the difference. I think it is more due to true play variance between retunes.

Awesome video! Did you ever get your play 5s in?

I'm curious about the difference between the audio quality of Dolby Atmos (DD+) vs Dolby Atmos (TrueHD) with the Sonos arc, two sonos ones, and a sonos sub. Is there a noticeable difference between these two audio formats from a listener's perspective? Is it worth upgrading a TV that supports ARC for one that supports eARC to get the lossless Dolby Atmos format or is the difference negligible with Sonos products? There is no content comparing these two formats. As always, thanks for your thorough explanations and reviews of Sonos products!

People are reporting a significant difference after the update with the plays ones.

i was wondering since you share the wall where your tv is do you keep the sub really low? cause ive been wanting to experience sonos with a sub but kinda worried im gonna get complaints even with it being on low

In the sonos app there is a audio compression setting. Should that be on automatic or uncompressed or compressed?

Do you recommend redoing Trueplay after installing the update or it’s not necessary? What I have noticed is that the bass does sound better after the update. My Arc is sitting right in front of my Sony TV on the shelf.

I'm still debating on the arc. Is it worth upgrading if I already have the playbar and beam. I would move my playbar to my bedroom. And beam to guest room. Still not sure what Atmos I'd be able to get with my Q70R. Either from tv apps. Or an external streaming device like Apple TV 4k or fire TV cube.

Hi Peter
I have a Samsung Nu8500 TV and I bought the SONOS ARC, supposedly that TV offers the option of DD plus ... I use it with apple TV 4k and xbox one s ... some recommendation so that if you can listen to Dolby Atmos or Dolby Digital Plus.
