NYC Open Data provides a treasure-trove of information - all publicly available with a click of a button. While having access to data is great, its analysis is often a difficult process for beginners, potentially creating barriers in one's open data journey. Additionally, performing data analysis in a reproducible way is often limited or even discarded altogether.
In this virtual talk, I will discuss my project that includes four notebooks that demonstrate key aspects of data analysis. These sections include:
1. How to read (load) and write (save) data with various formats
2. Data inspection and wrangling
3. Data visualizations
4. Geospatial analysis and creating maps

Note: This is not a workshop, and we won't be coding.
Talk Level:
Beginner
Prerequisites:
- Basics of Python or other programming languages (R, SQL, etc.)
- Knowledge of Data Analysis
- Basics of Jupyter Notebooks
This presentation recommends beginner-level proficiency with Python and is focused on applying Python to data analysis; however, those new to Python are gladly welcome!

ABOUT NYC OPEN DATA WEEK
Open Data Week is a week-long festival of community-driven events organized and produced by the NYC Mayor’s Office of Data Analytics and BetaNYC. Every year, New Yorkers come together all across the boroughs to celebrate New York City’s Open Data Law, which was signed into law on March 7, 2012. Coincidentally, the first weekend of March is also International Open Data Day. Together, we use both dates to anchor NYC’s Open Data Week and increase civic engagement with our municipal open data.
