At 9000ft, it's fairly easy to put it down on a runway somewhere. The options available to them were Newark (the one taken), Teterboro, and Lehigh Valley Airport in Allentown. Overall, options were available in most directions compared to the US Airways situation.

The Miracle on the Hudson has an overlooked brother.
It happened in Indonesia on January 16, 2002. A plane lost power after its engines flamed out due to rain. The pilots had no idea but the green path on their radar was essentially a shadow and they unknowingly flew into the heart.

After trying to restart their engines on a faulty battery, they tried to start their APU. Which caused all power to be lost. They flew past the airport, and managed to land between 2 bridges on a windy river. Everyone on board survived except one flight attendant. Still a tragedy, but an overlooked miracle given the circumstances. This was Garuda Indonesia Flight 421.

The reason why it was classified as an “accident” by the NTSB is most likely because of the severe damage to the leading edge of the left wing which would adversely affect flight characteristics (specifically lift and drag on the left wing)

As I understand it, the NTSB actually recreated the exact conditions of the flight in their training simulators that accounted for damage to the ring and the pilots’ 35 second delay after the bird strike due to shock and concluded that they could not have reached any runway. Ditching in the river was the right choice.

There is a plane crash in brazil, that was a miracle, varig 254 crashed into the Amazon rainforest and most of the passangers survived.

Sully wasn't the first Sully, the first river landing was from Garuda Indonesia Flight 421 which landed in the Solo River
