This was my mom’s new favorite film before she passed away last year. As soon as this movie went on a streaming site she was watching it every time i came over. I love this film as well but not as much as she did. She had great taste in movies and i think this brought her back some nostalgia from her raising us in her early 30s when the 90s animated films. Love my mom and miss her everyday.

Something I absolutely adore about the way these two both played their roles is that they perfectly captured the ties of blood family while still maintaining an air of distance and tension.

Cruella and her mother are like a dark, twisted mirror, each reflecting in one another while warping and bending slightly out of shape. You can SEE them in each other while still being able to make clear distinctions in their characters. The reason Cruella's mother instantly finds her interesting is because she sees herself. The reason Cruella is absolutely fixated on her, outside of her revenge, is because some part of her truly was aching for her mother's attention. To be understood the way she was.
