God people are so extreme on both sides here with this cover. I didn't even realize it was controversial. You got some people saying this cover is "butchering" the original and some saying the original is trash and this is superior. I'll say I think this cover would've been better had she done it a few years later into her career, she was still pretty young and her voice hadn't matured yet. Still a nice voice, almost a bit reminiscent of Dolly here. I think this is a nice cover overall and don't get the hate. I don't think it can touch the original, just doesn't have the grit... but still a more than respectable rendition of a classic.

My understanding is that music critics' reviews were not favorable to this record, but I think it's superior to both Janis Joplin's original and to Hill's absurdly overrated Wild One.

I was driving down I-35 between Texas and Oklahoma border and this damn song came on, I don't know how I missed it all those years ago but how dare this woman butcher that Janis Joplin song. I became physically sick listening to this woman butcher Janis Joplin's song.
