When I was 19 my roommate and I cobbled our respective 5 pc drum kits together to make a monster kit inspired by the liquid drum theater 2 disc dvd I special ordered from work at Borders books and Music. We spent months trying to replicate the wizardry we saw on those DVD’s and this song in particular is one I’ll eternally have committed to perfect memory. At my best I could only get 3/4 of it right at a time but I still remember every beat of it in my head.

Literally one of my favorite parts of the song. And it was all improvised. Kind of figured but damn the more you listen to it the catchier it is.

I think the irony to Portnoy is his work after DT far exceeds his work in the band. I feel like dream theatre sacrifices emotional feel and "putting themselves in the music" for technically tasking parts. it just sounds empty, impressive as it is. When Portnoy did work with Sevenfold, it was so full of emotion and do much more enjoyable to listen to, as simple as at was. funny how that works.
