First "privacy channels " are not private any one on frequency can hear your conversations and this true on all GMRS RADIOS.

I tested out a bunch of these radios radios and found that the Rockie Talkies, Retevis RT45P, Oxbow Renegade 2.0 and Cobra RX680 all had excellent range and defintely beat out the Motorola T800. Didnt get the chance to test dewalts radio, but it seems interetsing.

I t does matter any family service radio you can find will only work at 2 miles or less LONG RANGE is GMRS I have one
we have six repeters here my city each repeter does 20 miles i know I am W R X N 824 family service is 1/2 watt
GMARS your working with 5 wattsI can link into chicago on morning net and talk to the east coast do not beleave the box

hear we go again what you really have is 2 miles range child locater as the radio
only has a 1/2 of a watt transmitter under the hood that is what F R S is
mens KNOW on the G M R S side you need a license as you are talking 20 miles through
a repeater net work. there is your long range 5 watts out put in to a 60 watt repeeater
I know as I am a licensed radio operater
