In Chess Google have developed Alpha zero which is MASSIVELY better at the game than any human - and it was developed by just giving it the rules of chess, and letting it work out itself the best moves. There are now further vesrions of alpha zero which defeat the previous versions. AI is way beyond the general concepts of what we thought

There's no stopping what's coming at this point. Even if we in the USA/Europe come to our senses and try to apply constraints on this, those constraints will not be applied universally by everyone else everywhere else. Someone, somewhere, is going to attempt to use it to gain an edge, and they will unleash it upon the rest of us.

And it only needs to happen once.

In the end, we will be done in by our own hubris.

You just made me realize I may have had an attempted hack on my bank account last week. The reason I say this is my bank called me for the first time ever but I missed the call by less than a minute, so I called my bank and they had no answer. She said to disregard the call. Now I am wondering if it was AI. I won't answer next time either if it happens again. I will call back, maybe I am being paranoid but I can't take any chances.
