According to an old imdb news article, Valiant was an attempt by Vanguard Animation (the central studio behind this film) and Walt Disney Pictures (the North American distributor) to set up an animation department at Ealing Studios. Considering the rich filmography of that century old studio, Valiant may have been outright poisonous to 2D Animation in Europe if the movie was met with universal acclaim and became a box office smash.
