This video is a review of the Nikon Z 400mm F4.5 S. I have had the lens for almost six months. And in this video I'm glad to share with you my experiences I have had with this lens. I try to answer as many questions as I can. If you still have any questions about the lens. Be sure to leave a comment down below.

I'm not a fan of UV filter, they do not protect as much as one can believe, but they could make impact to picture quality. Buying a lens for $4000 (USD) and then putting a cheap glass in front of it makes no sense to me. A lens hood also protects against rain ☔
@10:20 I really like this photo! Beautiful!

Thanks Thomas. I chose this 400mm prime because of the 4.5. I mainly shoot birds and often times it is not the best light conditions. I also utilize crop mode sometimes so that puts me at 600 without the TC, 840 with it. In a compact and light combo that is a winner in my book.

That lens looks great. I went with the Z 100-400 and the Z 800mm. These 2 lenses with my Z9 and 2 TCs gives me coverage from 100mm-1, 600mm. The 100-400 is amazingly sharp, and has very close focusing. These 2 also can fit in a carry on bag. The 800mm is my new favourite. You can easily use it handheld even with the 2X TC. Nikon is making some amazing long glass.

Thomas, Thanks for this video and your thoughts. I’ve never bought such an expensive lens as this one. But i appreciate the image quality of a great lens. And, seeing how you’ve been able to use it for landscape images (beyond just birds i’d use for) helps me see it as more versatile.

Hi Thomas, I was looking for a Nikon telephoto Lens some weeks ago. 80 % of my photography „work“ is landscape, the rest Macro, Wildlife and some „experiments“. I chosed the Z 100-400 because of its wide useability e.g. narrow focus distance and light weight. As an amateur photographer I thought for a long time, if I should spend so much money for a single lens. But the results for me are so good and I am much more often in nature than before … and if I should actually lose interest in photographing, I think, it will be easier to sell such a high quality lens. Very interesting your thoughts and tests. For more wildlife I would have been chosen the Z 400. Christian

Nice, Thomas! I really like your video content. This 400mm f/4.5 with the TC 2x seems the key for versatility. I work a lot on the street and also in the mountains doing photos and videos. And I missed out more close up with nice quality, even with 70-200mm f/2.8 G VR with FTZII cropped. Thanks you!

Hi Thomas, I am enriched with your presentation, very nice . I had some doubts about this lens but now it is cleared. I have already purched this one but less used to its potential. Thanks ❤

Hi Thomas, thank you for making the video. You ask yourself whether you've tested it correctly and I would say: yes. I would question the conclusion though: when that TC gives the same result in sharpness compared to cropping on the bare lens, is there any use for that TC?

All digital camera sensors have a UV protection filter in front, that is what we clean when there’s dust on our images. Putting another on the lens is very unnecessary.
A good quality “Protection filter “and the use of the provided Lens Hood would go a long way
to protect the lens from the elements and get better sharper photographs …Cheers

I simply love this lens. Paired with my 1.4X tele and Z50 I got a stolen 840mm f6.3.
If I ever get the Z50ii this could be a great combo otherwise it will sit on my Z6ii and I'll enjoy the larger pixels helping to gather in more light. Great video and props to Nikon for being so innovative compared to Sony and Canon who focus on AF all the time to make up for therir sub par glass.

Thanks for good video. I have already ordered this lens, its fantastic for birds in flight photography because it is so light.with my 1, 4 tc it gives the 560mm reach. Im am considering 2, 0 x tc also, my body is 24mpx ZF

A well balanced. review. Many thanks. I have the Z 100-400 which was on order for 7 months and delivered the day Nikon announced the Z 400 f/4.5. I can't afford / justify both but have been torn ever since!!!

Great video and review of this beautiful lens. I am confused between the Z 100-400mm and this one Z 400mm f4.5. Cost is not an issue but thinking more about versatility.

Hi Thomas I really enjoy your channel. I have this lens and the 1.4 teleconverter. On the Z9 it's an amazing wildlife photography combination. Maybe the Z 800mm PF next. You should ask Nikon to loan you one so you can do a review. Also get yourself the Z9. You'll love it!

If I still had my Z 7II i would almost certainly have bought this lens. It's a beauty!
